How are you guys using Wyze with SmartThings? I want to add some garage door sensors and a motion sensor in the garage to turn the lights on and off. I know I can do this with all SmartThings sensors, but Wyze sensors are so much cheaper for the same things. I want a motion sensor to turn on my garage lights via a GE z-wave switch I have hooked up. And garage door closed and status announcements via Alexa. Thoughts? Would Wyze integration with SmartThings do this well?
How are you guys using Wyze with SmartThings?

Nope. Get a zigbee sensor. Even if there *was* a wyze integration (there isn't), you don't want your automations dependent on a third party cloud (Wyze) using a sensor that uses a proprietary protocol that is connected to a wifi camera. Don't be tempted by price. I love the cameras but the sensors are mostly terrible.

@unclothe1851 good point, thanks. Recommend any specific sensor? I have only tried the SmartThings multisensor on a closet door.

@apprehensible I have z-wave door sensors from mono price that work well. I don’t have any motion sensors so I can’t help with that one.

@apprehensible Stay away from xiaomi aqara, otherwise I haven't had bad luck with anything else. Centrilite, smartthings, etc. Zigbee sensors tend to react faster than zwave.

@apprehensible As usual, "your mileage may vary" and everyone has their own unique experiences. Mine were a pain to pair and eventually became unpaired because they don't go through zigbee repeaters like they should. After seeing the price, I recommended them to a friend - he ended up ditching them after a few months for the same reasons.

@unclothe1851 thanks. Always good to get other opinions. Do you know if Ring sensors can communicate with the Ring alarm and SmartThings hub in tandem? I believe they are zigbee sensors.

@apprehensible Both zigbee and zwave devices can only be paired to a single hub.

@unclothe1851 thanks.

Is the smart things sensor zigbee? I dig that it also does temp.

You can use Alexa routines to do this

@crabstick4604 right, but I need the sensors first.

@apprehensible like @unclothe1851 said above, they aren’t that great. Fun to tinker with, but SmartThings compatible Sensors are worth the price IMO. I beta tested them and they’re now sitting in storage. Might bring them back out if they add SmartThings integration.

@crabstick4604 rhanks. Do you have a favorite SmartThings compatible sensor?

@apprehensible honestly Samsung’s house SmartThings brand ones are pretty good and competitive on price.

I have the Wyze lock which I love and yuu I don’t have to have the camera as the bridge because it ships with its own. Alexa can lock and unlock but ST cannot see the device. It’s a shame because the price was $89 for a sweet deadbolt that keeps your existing hardware intact.

And I paired it with the keypad. It’s a great combo for a fair price.

@kraft it is zigbee, it’s only a matter of time before someone reverse engineers the zigbee command set for ST

Has anyone tried Sengled contact sensors? I wonder if they pair directly with SmartThings.
by (12.9k points)
Why, do you have a better deal for them or something? The SmartThings multisensor is only $18 on amazon

@unclothe1851 they are slightly cheaper but just curious. $4 per sensor and I would be getting 3 or 4 so it save me a few bucks.
