This one is WiFi? I am trying to decide if WiFi will work or if I need a z-wave. I don't want to have to use another app from another manufacturer to use it with ST.

it is WiFi but it hooks into smart things to trigger it. I am surprised at just how fast it turns on and off from SmartThings.

it is just recognized directly in ST? Or does it need to be setup with an app first?

you have to configure it with their app then add to smart things.

I think I prefer a Zwave device that links directly with ST.

Does it have to be a plug? I just installed a water feature with a pump and lights, and 2 sets of RGBW strips. I've used Zigbee on/off modules inline with the power on them all and tucked them into an IP67 rated junction box.

did putting that in a junction box hurt performance at all?

Nope. This is in the worst place possible. It's through a cavity wall into the garden. Then there is a water feature about 8 metres away. This is effectively a sheet metal box. The Zigbee controller is in a plastic junction box which is then wedged into the back of the water feature. I've got one running the pump and one running the lights. It's pretty much instantaneous on SmartThings. The only thing was the pairing. It didn't want to pair so I had to bring it in and pair it indoors. But now it's outside it's fine. I'm very pleased!

I had the GE on on pool cage lights but if kept going offline. I replaced it with a peanut brand and not one issue. It's not made for outdoor use per say but I have it in a covered box.

I did the same thing, but replaced my controllers with dumb transformers and used the Kasa regular outlet in a weatherproof box to control them both. Feels good to get rid of the silly programming of the old transformers.

I think I am doing the same thing. I am bypassing the timer box and plugging the lights directly into a smart plug.

So much simpler that way. Your lights don't need a transformer then? Mine are pretty standard Malibu 12VAC. I use two EMCOD 100-Watt dumb transformers to get from 120VAC to 12VAC.

Any opinions on this one? I see it supports ST and has a built in repeater. .

I've done some searches to see if MyQ works with Smartthings and several sources says it does, but when I try to add a garage door, MyQ is not listed as one of the options.
