Anyone know of a GFI smart outlet that I can install on the exterior of my house? It is in a plastic box that has a cover. I'm going to plug a transformer into it for the low voltage on my patio, and I want to be able to control it via smartthings.

Not GFI, but a good outdoor grounded three prong is: GE Enbrighten Z-Wave Plus Smart. .

Does that exact plug need to be GFCI, or do you by chance have one somewhere else on that circuit?

I'm not sure. I only know the outlet I want to replace is already a GFI.

Does an indoor switch control it? if so, put a smart switch there instead

Why not just get a GFI breaker, or find an outlet upstream and use a GFI feed through outlet? Anything behind the feed through outlet will be protected. That way you can use any outlet you want outside in your box, and its protected upstream.

I think getting the breaker might be the way to go. how could I find out what is upstream of the outlet?

well that would require some testing and might be a bit more involved. Breaker would be easier. Finding out whats upstream would involve first knowing whats on the circuit, then finding out whats wired to what. Would involve disconnecting and tracing wire feeds. That would be difficult if you don’t know the wiring layout.

I think I need to get one of those! The builders did a lousy jab labelling my breaker panel!

So I just got my annual escrow review for 2020 and it says I’m getting a check back of about $1300 Now I know why that is, as I switched my house insurance midway through the yr and saved about that much.

I need an outlet and a smart app that will trigger when power to a device is turned on (not when the outlet is turned on, but the device - TV that is plugged into it is powered up).

Anyone using Keen vents? Debating on 2 of them for my bedroom, it gets warmer then the rest of the house so it would be useful to close them when the room reaches a certain temperature.
