Is there a way to cause a Ring recording to start via a Smartthings event? For example: I have a sensor on my mailbox and want to start a recording when the accelerometer is activated.

Maybe I missing something. If the Ring is close enough to record someone at the mailbox then it ought to trigger itself. If too far to trigger then even if you trigger it the video would not be worth much. Rings are VERY wide angle and low rez so not good for more than a few feet way. A better solution would appear to be to stick a cam that can record 24/7 to watch the mailbox and have it trigger notifications. Now if like me your mailbox is across the street, you will want a system where the cam record it 24/7 and the notifications are triggered by the sensor. That could always grab a pic from the cam if you wish and / or mark the video to make finding the spot easy. All depends on the out come you want but all doable. Mine both notifies and highlights the cam on the camera console.

No, ring is it’s own beast. Not sure if ring motion sensors can activate a recording inside the ring app.

I don't use ring so not sure but maybe ifttt has an integration you could use for this?
