I have GE zwave switches. My Son keeps leaving the light on in his room. I see timer options on my switch in smartthings, but its a one time use only. You have to keep putting the timer on after it expires. Any ideas? I’ve tried the motion switches for his room, but if he tosses throughout the night, it turns on.

Set a rule turns off that switch after 30m

Use the power allowance exceeded routine to shut it off after a preset time. That’s how I do all of mine

@actable890 marketplace, smart lights, then set to turn off, how do you want to trigger the action, pop up window comes up, scroll all the way to the bottom and pick power allowance exceeded. Set number of minutes, follow the rest of the prompts. Works well. This is in the classic app btw. Hope it helped.

Set rule in Smart Lighting to turn off at certain time. I set mine for 9am cause he should be at school and 1am cause he should be asleep.

Add a motion sensor in the room then create automation that turns off the light after XX minutes of no motion activity. For nighttime , include a condition to not run the turn on automation between certain hours or based on SMH mode. The suggestions to use power allowance will not work for zwave switches.

I have mine turn off at certain times of the day. Could also program something that will turn them off automatically after 30 minutes of being turned on.

And if you want to get reeeeally advanced, add a door contact sensor and Bangalis rooms manager app or WebCoRE. You could potentially set it where if the door is closed and the light turns on it stays on until the door is opened again. Unless it's a certain time of day, (the hot out of bed at night scenario) then the light turns off after a certain period of time

I have the same situation. I just use a motion sensor and a rule that switches the lights off after 5 minutes of no activity. Switching on is still via a tradfri button so it stops the lights going on with motion

My daughter will get up at different times of the night and raise the temp of the thermostat way too high. I created an automation that resets the temp every hour (one automation each hour needed). That way, it limits the time the heat will be on. Probably an easier way but it works.

Hopefully some day, there will be a real room presence detection system.
