I think fire is the right and cheapest solution. but def splurge a little for an HD model. the cheapest ones will end up driving you crazy with how slow they are.

Not a fire. Get a regular Android tablet.

@dynode why reg Android and not a Fire?
by (3.8k points)
@cyprinoid42513 the fire has an interface on it. I find. it super slow and can't do the motion detection etc. It's unusable most times to disarm the alarm. Literally 2 seconds in between presses sometimes. I have a DINOSAUR free Verizon tablet I used for my bedroom panel. lightning fast and blows the fire away.

@dynode agree. The regular fires are crap slow. the hd models are decent. For the price.

@dynode thanks for the info. Need to purchase a tablet and keep going back and forth bw Android and Fire.

I use one of the latest fire 8" and have to say i dont have any of the issues above , only thing installed is fully kiosk and tasker . Motion detection works fine. And i havent seen any delays in response thats noticable enough to annoy me However i had this lying around so used it. If i were to buy one i would go android. More control for a start and no amazon ads and forced lock screen

I had 3 fire tabs with all my smart stuff on it. Everything. Cameras, ring, action tiles and the Amazon tablets with the ram was killing me how slow the action tiles response was. Samsung Tabs work flawlessly and you can get the cheap tab A refurbished and it works wonders.

@interfertile how do you have ring displaying?
by (490 points)
Very interesting. How many cameras did you run on the fire before it started to slow down? and did you have tinycam running on the fire as well? Was it a 10 HD? I have six IP cameras that I'd like to use with action tiles (but it is not a dealbreaker). Fully kiosk functionality and some simple info tiles like time and weather are the focus.

@interfertile almost $200 for a refurb? Is that cheap?
by (410 points)
@gereron its displaying in the background so when motion occurs it can launch a popup if it wants. Samsung can split screens so at times i have action tiles with ring or foscam cameras up

@cyprinoid42513 i got one for around 160 on ebay.

You can go with the samsung tab e as well but do not overload it with apps. It only has 1. 5gb of ram and will tend to slow down.

@interfertile thanks

We’re all assuming you’re trying to mount this on the wall. if that’s the case, the first app you want to buy is Fully Kiosk. FYI.
by (490 points)
@olsen60131 sort of. I’m going to mount it to the front of a fridge. Thanks for the Fully Kiosk tip. That’ll be the first thing I get.
