Honestly if you are asking questions about hot/neutral wires in a house, you should be careful and maybe hire an electrician. White is usually neutral and black is usually hot, but you should know to measure them if there's any question and not assume they are corrwct

Yes usually the white wire is the neutral wire. Usually but I would get a electric meter and check it before hand. In switch boxes the neutral wires are all twisted together with wire nuts.

Wt and copper are same potential, but isolated across the wiring.

@ceyx8967 no, you don't. NEVER ever trust wire color. Test with a meter. ⚡

@anatolia7046 THIS. Even according to NEC color has no requirements as to its purpose. There are industry standards, but would you bet your life on it?

Get your multi meter and confirm what's what so you don't cross anything up.

As an electrician who makes a lot of money from homeowner mistakes. white is neutral but if you have to ask that maybe hire a guy to install it.

Not a dumb question. If unsure, hire an electrician. Have him do one and teach you, you can then do the next ones. And there will be more!
