I began weight watchers on January 11th and to date I've gone from 134 lbs to127. 8 lbs. I get 16 points a day and have also been counting calories. I eat between 700 and 1200 cals per day. It seems that I'm losing it slowly. Should I be tweaking my strategy or am I on the right path?

Slow is the way to go. One to two pounds a week. It will be easier to keep off and you're transitioning to a new way of eating. It's a lifestyle, not a diet.

She weighs less than 130 lbs already. She should not be losing 1-2 lbs a week. At her weight a 1/2 lb is more realistic.

I don't think so. I lose slowly also but the rule of thumb is the slower you lose the longer you keep it off. I try to limit my carbs and eat all my points every day. I try not to use the weekly ones but sometimes I have to. good luck . keep it up.

@bad When you say the weekly ones are you referring to roll over points?

Slow is best. Put it this way, WW is a lifestyle not a diet. You’re on a healthy eating path. Whatever your goal is, don’t worry, focus on mindfulness. It’s for life. It doesn’t magically stop because of a number on a scale.

That's not slow at all especially at an already low starting weight. 700 calories though seems very low

@reader That's what I was wondering

I think the 1200 should be more of a target for most. 700 seems very low, especially if it's happening frequently.

The problem could be that you are not eating enough. This has been discussed at various meetings. WW is not about calories, it's about points based on nutritional information. Also, people who only have a few pounds to lose often have to work harder or take longer than someone who needs to lose a hundred pounds. 127 lbs. is probably a very healthy weight depending on one's height. The weight charts of decades ago are not appropriate for today's average bodies. Back in the day, someone at 5'8 was suggested to weigh 140 lbs. I'd be emaciated if I weighed that much. You might want to check with your doctor about this, including eating so few calories. You could be doing damage to your metabolism.

I think you’re doing great! I started on January 6 and to date I’ve lost about 6 pounds! I find that tracking what I eat really helps me, the barcode on my WW app helps me tremendously when I go grocery shopping and the WW groups are wonderful because of the people are very inspiring and informative and Very supportive! I find a lot of great recipes on this site and I am learning how to tweak almost anything I make and you can also track that on your WW app by just adding the ingredients that you’re adding into whatever you’re cooking! Keep up the great work! Another thing that helps me I was discouraged when I lost only 5 pounds and then I looked at a 5 pound bag potatoes and imagined with that look like on my butt! LOL  we got this ladies and gents! This is my new lifestyle I will be eating this way for the rest of my life! Before WW I was down on myself and now I finally see a better future! I am 68 years old and I was getting discouraged because I was gaining little by little! Now I am losing little by little but at least I’m losing! ✌️

You are on a great path! I started on Jan. 6 and am losing 1-3 pounds per week too. I trust that this is the way I curb my eating habits permanently and keep the weight off! Good luck to you and keep going!

@aorta874 good luck to you too!

13 lbs in a month isnt slow. this isnt "diet" to drop weight quick. its a stesdy lifestyle change. you didnt gain it all in 1 month, youre not going to lose it all that quick either

@rory I haven't lost 13 pounds I've lost just about 7

@mainly lord ‍♀️my ability to read with a toddler crawling all over me. im sorry. honestly that sounds about right. 1-2 lbs a week is expected. evennif its less than that. keep trucking. it all adds up.

700 calories is too low for everyone! Your body thinks it's starving, and will store all food as fat! Plus you won't lose or lose less. You should most likely be eating between 1200 - 1300 calories. Look up, it is according to weight and size and activity. You also need some form of exercise. You will lose more slowly, but you will be more likely to keep it off long-term.

@stepmother I am going to up my calories. I just had reconstructive surgery due to breast cancer. I have always worked out for the last 40 years of my life or longer. spin classes kick boxing classes running and I've had to take some time off and that's when I gained the weight but I will be getting back to my workouts pretty soon.
by (170 points)
@mainly I'm sorry to hear that! I hope all goes well for you. You will get the weight back off, just be patient.

Never eat less than 1200 calories a day! Your metabolism will go into starvation mode and you won’t lose anything.

700 isn’t going to cut it. Eat your points and exercise!

You didnt gain all of the weight in a day, so you're not going to lose it all in a day. Also you dont weigh that much compared to others on ww so you wont be losing 2 pounds a week like some.

Stop counting calories and follow the plan as-is. Sort of sounds like you may not be eating enough. Are you eating at least 10 points besides your zero point foods? Are you using your weekly points?
by (5k points)
@okwu I have had anywhere from 3-10 points left over unless I go out to eat. Today I've tried to eat many more of my points.
