That's one thing I really don't like about ww. They discriminate against all fats, instead of the unhealthy ones. Raw olive oil over your salad or avocados should be part of your healthy diet. Just look at the Mediterranean blue zones. People eat lots of it (plus no artificial sweeteners and limited sugar) and live to old age with very little disease
by (5.9k points)
@redundant i'm not a fan of keto, but low(er) carb is healthier than low fat. Fruits and veggies are important, but healthy (not the butter of course) fats are so incredibly healthy for your system! Nuts, seeds, avocados, fish are always a good addition to your diet
by (1.5k points)
@apc @overlong11 is right. My WW leader has said clearly that we should have no more than 3 servings of fruit a day. They are not encouraging unlimited fruit.
by (5.9k points)
Not saying you should, it's just like @corpuscle said above. The system doesn't always make sense by giving high points to healthy fats while allowing you garbage
by (2.1k points)
@apc butter isn't bad for you. Corn oil is bad for you.
by (5.9k points)
Butter has a lot of saturated fat and a low burning point. I've never seen corn oil, so no idea about that, but rice oil is better for most cooking purposes

I just looked on my app!  I'm on blue plan and yes. it looks like the whole thing is 11 points. I would've thought they were 0.
by (590 points)
@transubstantiate72 they’re full of fat, but it’s supposed to be a healthy fat, so a better way to use the points than say, a candy bar
by (3k points)
@transubstantiate72 I buy the plain wholly guacamole in single servings. I only use 1/2 a cup for toast. It’s 2 pts. I wrap the rest and put it in fridge for next day.
by (910 points)
Always weigh your avocado. I get a 1/4 avocado-1 oz for 1 pt! The app says 1/4 is 3 pts. I don't know where they're getting these huge avocados.
by (2.5k points)
@transubstantiate72 I eat a whole one every day. I don’t track it and am losing weight. Somebody stupid came up with that 11 pt number.

Use a food scale when measuring avocado. The points are way off for it! When I ate half an avocado, it was 5 points, but when i entered the weight in grams, it was only 2 points.

Avocados are full of fat/oil so definitely points in them.
by (2.1k points)
@bowdlerize but so is fish and it's free. They're both heart healthy fats so it makes no sense

Look stuff up before you eat it

by (1.8k points)
That’s because it has a lot of “fat” from the healthy oil in it which is HIGH in calories.
by (2.5k points)
@ordway good for you fat. Unlike nasty veggie straws where you can eat 40 of the salty nastiness for 3 pts. Makes no sense.
by (1.8k points)
@sandy i hear ya on that. I hate veggie straws. But also, avocados are physically denser than a veggie straw is.

@heron3589 I’ve heard that before!

@heron3589 I weigh everything! And in grams too!

I love them but nobody eats them but I . I would only eat a 1/4 at a time. It goes bad fast . So once in a while I buy Guacemole in the freezer section and I have a tablespoon at a time with my veggies or protein chips.
by (8k points)
@imaginable Aldis had then for . 39 for a few weeks. I hid the mind if the went bad if I only ate half. I have nd er seen frozen guacamole. I usually get 100 calorie packs in dairy section but they are expensive.

A flaw in WW. So many foods that are processed junk are worth low points, but a quality whole food like an avocado is high in points. I can eat sugar free jello (process junk), sugar free brownies (process junk), lays poppables (again, processed junk), but an avocado would set me over. Don’t let anybody tell you that WW isn’t a diet- it is, in fact, a diet.
by (9.6k points)
I think you're the first one ever on these feeds to state that WW is a diet, without everyone jumping all over your post. Many like to think that it's not a diet in their mind (and if it helps to think this way-go for it! ). BUT WW even advertises on their site and I quote "WW is the #1 Best Diet for Weight Loss 10 years in a row. " So, I'm not arguing with them--they are the experts.
by (3.4k points)
@global88705 it’s a diet to loose weight but also a way of life to maintain.
by (1.3k points)
@countershaft48069 It is. But in my opinion, the advertisement of “you can eat whatever you want” is a tad misleading. You can, but you’re going to blow your points for the day/weeklies. You certainly can’t eat what you want daily. You may get yourself a a Blizzard but you’re done for the day and weeklies are done.
by (3.4k points)
@global88705 yea but eating whatever you want whenever you want is what got us to ww in the first place. I’ll take ww over where I was.
by (1.3k points)
@countershaft48069 oh I agree, I just think when WW says those things, it’s misleading and probably shouldn’t be said. WW is a diet any way you look at it. Hopefully, if somebody uses WW as an avenue for lifestyle change, they’re recognizing what foods are whole and real and no longer point counting processed junk.

I watched a video where woman did not count them if she just had 1 serving and explained why. Made lot of sense. She compared them to bananas. Less carbs than banana.

It’s ridiculous an avocado is that many points. “OPRAH” WW needs to reassess that. Avocados are very good for you. I eat a whole one every morning. Half on my toast the other to eat. Still losing. 11 pts ridiculous. Yet you can eat 40 of those nasty veggie salty straws for 3 pts. WW has gotten stupid to me.

Lol. I don’t point avacado. I know I’m naughty I don’t want a lecture
by (9.6k points)
Lecture coming--we're free to do this program how it works for us so you're not being naughty. Avocados are one of the healthiest fats out there and getting some healthy fats in daily is extremely important so keep on eating them!
by (830 points)
Yup. That’s why I don’t point them they are healthy☺️

EXACTLY! HEALTHYfats! We didn't get to the point at which we needed WW by eating too many avocados!

1 serving is 1/4 avacodo. You can still over eat healthy foods. I would enjoy 1/4 and count it as 3 or something. 11 is nuts for a whole food that is a healthy fat.

What do you guys think of keto diet?
by (4k points)
@ania48025 It truly was. I kept thinking it would get better, asked questions and basically. was told I wasn't doing it right. There are so many supplements, gimmick recipes etc. I finally realized that it just wasn't for me. if it works for you. great. but I hate drinking pickle juice at 2am for leg cramps and taking Lomotil 3 times a day. On WW I'm back to me, losing weight and my tummy is happy. ☺
by (860 points)
@distress there's no way i could ever do keto, my friend is doing it though. I love my breads and pastas far to much
by (4k points)
@ania48025 Me too. My biggest walk away was sugar and sugar substitutes. I still eat whole fruit and berries with the fiber, great value seed breads. good to remember that many sweeteners can still spike your blood sugar, to break the cake/cookie/dessert mind set is freedom! On WW I track my binges that's what smart points are for. I will go days without using them them boom, I have a hungry day. it still works for me.
by (2.3k points)
@quach you can also drop a lot of weight by barely eating, it’s also not healthy for you. Don’t fall for the gimmicks. A well balanced diet is the way to go so you are not malnourished.

I always weigh it too. Because 1 oz is only 1 point. But not sure what size they’re going off of when it says 1/4 of a medium. Usually a half of a small/med one is an ounce
by (780 points)
@unlike @mandle989 Do you weigh it after removing the pit and skin? I never thought of this!

Things high in fat, high in sugar, and high in carbs are high in points. Knowiing this you need to adjust your points accordingly, avocados are high in fat, abiet good fat, but nonetheless high in fat, so next time you know. You can get by the rest of the day eating zero point foods, or go over, and get back on track tomorrow. Now you have learned a valuable lesson, or at least hopefully.

by (3.7k points)
@friel7 good fat, sugar whatever you eat can cause weight gain. It’s all about daily quantities if you eat too many calories you will gain weight. If you eat a deficit of calories you will lose weight.

I struggle with weight watchers making “healthy” fats so high and off limits yet artificial sweeteners, low fat and fat free products are encouraged. This stuff is so toxic compared to an avocado

@interpellate Treat-Perry my same issue. I hate all the low fat stuff that’s free, it’s bad for your health.

Avocado is calerie dense and good fats. Up to 32 grams is 2 points, then it goes up from there. Always do grams. And weigh it.

It’s ok. it was a healthy choice and full of good fats that your eyes, skin and joints really need. I wish WW would recognize this need and stop the high fat craze, out it to bed. We need some to function. It was still an extremely healthy choice and you shouldn’t feel worried.

Yep. this is where I dont like the WW system. They put 3 x bags of crisps and 1 x avocado at the same points. In reality the nutritional value of the avocado is so much better than the crisps, it encourages people to make bad decisions. I love WW and it does work but I think things like this need tweaking x

Avocado is one of the foods that I really think you should weigh- there is so much variation on what 1/4 of an avocado is depending on its size. I often find when I weigh it, it is less points.

Next time weigh it (minus pit and peel)and look up the macros online and enter it manually. Will be lower points.

WW is all about how you want to WW! I count half of an avocado as 2SP! I eat one half and the following day eat the other half! I also don’t count my blended fruit in my smoothie! I’m down -21 lbs! WW helps me in so many ways but half of an avocado a day and blended fruit isn’t what made me gain weight! You do what works best for YOUR body!
