I’ve done some reading on this. you can have water, black tea and black coffee. Even though some drinks with. artificial sweeteners have zero calories and points, they can affect your insulin levels. So most “experts” say to stick with just water, black coffee and black tea if trying to do a “clean” fast.

I drink black coffee in the morning & then water until I stop my fasting.

Tea, water and black coffee. No sugar or zero calorie sweeteners. No creamers of any kind either. Look up "clean fasting".

Sounds crazy to me.

@yatzeck my own cardiologist recommended it. Didn’t even mention losing weight, it’s healthier for your body.

I have been doing IF since January 1. There are many different time frames. Some people do alternate day fasting, which is you eat regular meals one day and no meals the next. Some people do OMAD, which is “only one meal a day”. The most common is probably 16:8 where you fast for 16 hours and feast for 8 hours each day. I started with 16:8 and my eating window time frame was 11am to 7pm. It was amazing the difference in the way it made me feel. I haven’t lost a lot of weight doing it but I can see the health benefits. I gradually narrowed my eating window down to about 3-4 hours. The fasting gives your body time to do what it needs to do naturally. Our western diets where we eat continuously is so hard on our bodies.

@thanos glad you pointed that out to me. I usually just eat within a 6 hour period. My point was that is the normal time frame people use.

It can be a little as 12 hrs but they say you don’t go into ketosis until 18 hrs. I have tried it a few times but I like my coffee with soy milk in the morning so 12 is usually the longest I go. Keeps me from snacking at night after dinner so I figure that’s a win.

I’m confused why you all are fasting and not just following the weight watcher program! This program is not a diet, but a lifestyle change and it’s supposed to teach you how to live a healthy life and being in control of what you eat! Fasting is a diet type program and not something that is long lasting! I’m a Lifetime Member who has done WW for 14 years. Maintaining your goal weight is the ultimate goal here and when I see these types of posts, I just don’t understand why! You’re paying for Weight Watchers, why are you trying other stuff!

@xylol Palmen Agree with you

@xylol Palmen Because insulin resistance is real. Also, if you have been obese for decades, IF works. I do one meal a day. Weight Watchers is for guidance, knowledge and connect. Have 11 lb to go. At that point will be 180 lb and will maintain till the fall a loss of 115 lb. also, age is a factor. Have been a member of WW since 1972. Starved to reach lifetime. Now at 71 close to 45 years later, I know IF, low carb and WW are my combined threads to success.

@xylol Palmen IF is very much a lifestyle and not a diet. It aids in many parts of the body but is very helpful in reducing inflammation and helping the body heal itself

@xylol Palmen I agree.

@xylol Palmen, IF is a lifestyle. People have been fasting for thousands of years. Many still do it today for health benefits and religious reasons. WW is a really good program but it is not the end all to be all. Any person who can combine whatever plan that works for them is a good plan. If our end goal is to be healthy then letting others know what has helped us on our journey is might help someone else. WW works but so do other things. ✌

@obmutescence10 well I have my opinion and you have yours! This site is for people following weight watchers, not other plans! Encouraging people to fast is stupid advice in this group! This group is for people working the WW plan and learning how to make life long choices! You do you, but please stop making people think they need to fast to lose weight!

@xylol Palmen please look back at the original post for this thread. I answered a question. I’m not trying to get anyone to do anything. I think we both agree that WW is a healthy eating plan. IF is a healthy plan of when to eat. I will continue to be me and try to be helpful if I can.

@xylol Palmen because my cardiologist recommended it, and you’re right- it wasn’t for losing weight, it’s better for my heart ( atrial tachycardia )

Agreeed. our team of drs have all agreed not the best

I fast for 18-22 hours daily. I like the benefits and LOVE the lower grocery bill!
by (13k points)
@xylol Palmen it's very beneficial to some, and also follow WW. I can't fast for that long, but I've hear really great things!
by (13k points)
@booth really? I have AFib and my cardiologist never said to follow IF.
by (500 points)
@cleopatracleopatre tachycardia is not the same. This is a pounding heart. Afib is an uncycled beat, more like a tremor. Cardiologist can explain it better. ‍♀️
