I hope you don’t mind me asking a question. I am a 55 year old menopausal woman with type 2 diabetes, needing to lose 80 pounds. If you are anything like me, do you think WW will work for me? What is the first thing you did to help you succeed. Thank you in advance from a very depress grandma who just want to play with her granddaughters.
I hope you don’t mind me asking a question.

We are the same age! You CAN do this!. I just joined in January. wanted to lose 40 pounds, but will be happy with 30. The weight drop is a little slow going for me, but I keep dropping. Some weeks, it is less than a pound, but I keep telling myself a loss is a loss! (So far, I'm down 18. 4 pounds. )

@consolata10 Bedell Buckley it all adds up and especially a week here or there with 1. 5 pounds

If you are ready to follow the program, it is the right time to join. and absolutely will work. but joining is not the trick, it is being ready to commit to following it. kind of obvious but true! Good luck!

I am 50, have about 130 to loose and have polycystic ovarian syndrome. It has not been fast, seems slower than most. But it is going down and I haven’t really changed what I eat but I needed to eat more and a lot more water than I ever thought. So make sure you use all your points or you won’t loose. ‍♀️ good luck and be patient. It took me two months to loose 11 pounds. But I swear my clothes are getting bigger and pants are falling off ☺️ I will take it! Slow and steady. I refuse to diet. I know I don’t eat badly. Just need to eat more ☺️ who knew ‍♀️

I was 55 when I started. Menopausal and needed to lose 80 lbs. first thing I did was get my mind set right. I HA@pervious to believe I could do it. I had to accept I the fact that I’d probably lose slower than i wanted to. I had to go into it ready to make changes . for me I needed to give up processed sugary snacks. I knew I needed to find my happy place with exercise. Once my mind was ready , it was easier. In a year I’ve lost 65 of the 80 lbs  So don’t allow any of those things you mentioned make you stumble or believe you can’t do it. Because you can!

57 here ~ have hyperthyroidism & have lost 19 lbs on purple plan since 1/1/20. I follow plan pretty much but do have the occasional pizza, wine or just bad day. I drink a lot of water & no soda. I also walk a minimum of 10 min a day, 6 days a week (my days off, I walk 2 miles in about 40 min). It has been very slow this go around vs 15 yrs ago when I lost 30lbs on WW, then averaged about 5 lbs a week, now more 1-2. It DOES work for anyone, just a little slower for some with issues. Good luck!

Connie, I wish to high heaven that I had started the WW journey at your age. Waiting causes nothing but regret. There is NO MAGIC. You just have to learn (and learn to love) a new, workable life style. This isn't something you play at. It isn't "three weeks to a trimmer waist". It's wisdom and support. It's trial and error. It's months of learning and adapting. I waited far too long and it's so much more difficult when you add in the struggles of age. (I'm old enough to be your mother) Just do it NOW. Do it with joy and resolve. This is a great support group. Come and join us, and don't ever look back. I'm down over 80 pounds. Sooner or later, I'll make my way to the 100 mark. For me. its' the ONLY way.

I think it works because there are boundaries. Once you hit your points your done for the day other than zero point foods. It helps having a strict cut off for me. Planning is key. If you know you have a high point dinner then you make sure to have a Low point breakfast.

You can do it! Something that helped me is too test blood sugar morning and night as a reminder to watch portions and slow down on the sugar. Drink at least 64 oz of water everyday. Then I realized the chart using hand measurement for some foods really opens my eyes to portion control. For example, a portion of meat measured in the palm of a hand.

It didn’t work for me, but it has work for many, many people. I found it had too many choices. I’m definitely a “ sugar addict” . , (one it too many, ) after search for many, many years I found BLE, lost 100 lbs . but it’s certainly worth a try. each person must find their own path. Good luck.
by (1.1k points)
@ugo what is BLE?
by (1.1k points)
@lothar “BRIGHT LINE EATING”look for it on Facebook. there’s a book that was “ eye opening for me” take a look for it if WW doesn’t work for you . I’m know I joined WW 12-15 time over the years.
by (1.1k points)
@ugo I seem to be doing good on ww. 36 lbs gone in 5 months. Thanks though, if I ever feel like I'm not progressing I'll look into it.
by (1.1k points)
@lothar . 36 lbs in 5 months. well done. I had trouble maintaining it, kept sliding up and down again. don’t have the same problem with BLE. just easier( for me) to get myself back, ( I’ll always ‘experiment’ , I accept that now). there’s a difference in BL between breaking the lines and blurring the lines. As I said Carla, to each her own. your doing really well, maybe this is YOUR path .

I am 56 with diabetes. It works! Everyday is a new fresh start. We all get into that frame of mind at one point or another. I reread the post I share with other people that are just starting out or need refocusing when I need to refocus myself. Maybe something on this will help you. The good thing is it is a new day! Today you start fresh. Today is your first day! Welcome to WW! Here are some basic tips TRACK every lick, bite, and taste. The program does not work if you don't track. You can lie to the tracker but your body knows what it ate. MEASURE breakout the measuring spoons, cups and the food scale. Don't eyeball it you will be wrong. EXERCISE find something you love. You won't do if you hate it. I personally like walking, dancing when the weather says don't walk, and cardio-drumming. I do cardio-drumming from YouTube videos. Nothing is more satisfying than hitting things with sticks. If you need to start easy try marching in front of the TV during commercials and then build yourself up to a whole show. MEAL PREP I always keep a big bin of chopped onions, a big bin of chopped bell peppers, and a big bin of chunks of cooked chicken breast. I also have staples like cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach, pasta, laughing cow triangle cheese, olive oil farro, tzatziki sauce, garlic, eggs, apples, oranges, bananas, berries, whatever is in season. This way when I am hungry I have healthy choices. Breakfast omlette throw together garlic, onions, peppers, eggs and then fold it over a cut up wedge of laughing cow cheese. For lunch a very easy tzatziki chicken. Chicken, bell pepper, onions, cucumber, tomatoes. Toss it with tzatziki sauce. You can put it on a pita, eat it without the pita, or what I like to do is RIP up half a pita and mix it in after the tzatziki is mixed in. For dinner maybe a salad with the spinach, onions, peppers, chicken. Etc. Maybe pasta or rice with anything on the list. The most important tip is KINDNESS be as nice to yourself as you are to others. When you are giving your self negative back talk, ask yourself if that is how you would speak to a friend and give yourself a break. I almost forgot. zero points does not mean zero calories. For instance, a banana is zero points but if you over banana you are gonna get yourself into trouble. EAT you need to eat within 10 below and 5 above your points level. If consistently under eat your body thinks there is a famine and holds on to every ounce of weight it can until the famine is over. Under eating and over exercising is a bad combo. If you stick to 5 below and 5 above it works better. for me at least. You are not alone in this. A lot of us join with that "last resort" mentality. But don't think that way. Take a nice before picture with a big smile because today is the day your life changed for the better. You are gonna get healthy, you are gonna be fit. You are gonna breathe better. You just need to give it some time. This is a slow process but it is a process that works. I'm excited for you taking this big step towards a healthier life. You might want to sit down and write yourself a love letter stating why you joined WW and what your long term goals are, how you will accomplish them (small term goals) and what you will be able to accomplish when you get there! I personally would like to be able to get up off the floor without having to hoist myself up on the couch like I am climbing Mount Everest. That is one of the things future me will be able to do. Last tip. don't hang out in the kitchen. Eat there, cook there, clean the dishes. But if it isn't kitchen related get out of there it is too tempting. Also do not compare your journey to anyone else's. We are all different. We all have different metabolisms. So mind your own journey and don't worry that someone else lost more that week. It won't help your progress.

You can do it❗If you lose 1 lb. a week that 52 lb in a year❗ you got this❗

by (45.9k points)
Absolutely! 1. Believe in yourself - you are worth the effort 2. Start by tracking everything - good, bad, ugly, tiny. There is no substitute for the knowledge and accountability it provides Many of us have something that makes this more of a challenge - age, medical condition, meds, menopause, etc. It may be more challenging, but never impossible

I am 56 and started this journey on June 22 and so far I am down 113 lbs with 25 lbs to go to reach goal! I do aerobics 5x a week for 90 minutes ! When I first started this journey I never thought I could get this far ! Not going to say it’s easy but it can be done! I rely a lot on fruits, veggies, chicken, fish and lots of protein( protein bars, shakes, eggs etc)! Good luck and just keep your “ why” always in sight!

It works if you work it  Speaking from a medical standpoint though, it can be really tough to lose weight if your hormones are imbalanced and if you’re insulin resistant. All the components work together. BUT YOU CAN DO IT! If you’re on track, but having a tough time, always good to check your levels. I say this as a medical professional, but also as 30 year old woman with crazy hormone imbalances. (Have had them because of birth control use, and it took Drs forever to actually figure it out. They all said “there’s no way it could be your hormones, you’re too young ‍♀️)

@judaica9474 I’m menopausal and found that I can’t lose weight doing ‘normal’ diets, so looked in to keto diet and realised it works for me. There’s loads of help on the internet. I try not have any sugar. But do like to cheat with carbs on a weekend. x
by (29.5k points)
@dozy88408 Oh boy, I can't cheat. I just add a small amt. Ea. Day if I chose. I do follow. Paleo & Keto, too. Have sensitivity to all grasses incl rice & corn. Have not gotten scale to move even tho I exercise, hydrate & stay w/in points. Trying limited sugar thing. Here is a BIG. Warning, the older you get, the harder it is to lose! Can't express that enough. Get where u wanna be & stay there. Since I turned 70, I notice it is almost impossible to get to goal! Each y it gets worse (77, now). Thanks for input!

NO‼️ WW did not work for me!  I worked for me using info WW has set forth for me to use. WW set up meetings, guide lines, products & meetings, in person or on line & support coaches. This room is here for us to support & get support from other "sufferers". So, from me the answer is NO WW doesn't work for me, I work for me. Thankful for all of you & the guiding from WW.

The first thing I did was to admit I needed help. I then joined my local WW and go every Monday morning. at least after this virus stuff is over. I plan my meals the night before. sometimes what I'm going to eat hour by hour. If I did not continue on this journey every day, I would be in trouble. I have made some wonderful friends at our meeting. in fact, get there at 8 a. m., make the coffee, spend time with friends and the meeting then starts at 9:30. if I didn't love it so much, I wouldn't get there so early! Good luck. we all have a journey!

@jon56 exactly. You have to work this program. I'm not in it at the moment but I do work a lot of it as well as my own program Tua Bariatrics which although 8 years ago my surgery you have to continue on the journey for it to help you. I'm also a member of another program of addiction oh, also a program. Action if you don't work the program it won't work for you. Not every program is good for every person not every color as far as what plan people pick works for each person and no Weight Watchers itself may not work for every person and if it doesn't then you do you and find what does work for you but if you do nothing and you are a negative Nelly, and I'm not speaking of you I'm just speaking in general then you will become stagnant if you do nothing. I wish you the best. All of you. I went from 240 lb . 218 when I started looking into weight loss surgery because of health issues by my doctor I was referred to surgery after doing Weight Watchers and other programs but still having so many health problems. I followed my program to a g until depression and many other things set in and I myself fell off the program as well as my other program and fell apart. Once I got my tell clean and stay that way I lost 93 lbs through that and my surgery and a positive outlook on my life in my health. Define relapsing and changing to an uncaring attitude about everything I gained back about 40 pounds I am now clean three and a half years again with a deep deep desire to stay clean and healthy as well and I've lost to a point where I only have 14 lb left of that goal and then five more Tubi where I truly want a baby but the point is healthiness to me I'm almost 60 and have arthritis and other problems I'm sorry to be rambling but the point is abstinence is not the only thing you have to want to be healthy and the behavior modification and the willingness and open-mindedness to a program therapy Weight Watchers whatever other program. Food is an addiction to many many people so you apply the same principles and stuff but I don't I'm not trying to preach AA or na or any of those things I'm just telling you like the woman I was listening to earlier and reading about her post seems like she may belong to a program and I connected to what she said right away. Kudos to her and many others who are probably struggling in the same way with more than one addiction and if not, if you act like you are and use some of those guidelines and Weight Watchers and any other you will do wonderfully it's a matter of sticking to it and not becoming complacent with your ww. w program or any other sorry for the book I just wrote hopefully it helps. I know after I just wrote it it will help me at least for today. In this time of struggle when we can't really do much else but help ourselves and think positive we have lots of time to get online and do workouts and search out recipes and write out plans for ourselves and grocery list and Keep On Keepin On! Love you guys

I'm 53 with type 2 and also heart issues. I also need to loose 80lbs. Started on 2-16 and have lost 18lbs so far. First thing I did was get rid of anything that was a poor option. (I gave it to a family) this helped to only have better options so when you do feel a tad crazy at least what you munch on is better than before. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies. Planning and tracking have been key for me.

I believe it’d work BUT y’all have to look at it as a lifestyle and not a diet. I see some of y’all says it doesn’t work, it took x amount of tries. Find your why, OP- sounds like your granddaughters. Excellent! Turn it into a lifestyle & not a diet. I plan on coming out of quarantine (not sure how long it’ll be) with the healthy body I know is in there. My why? I’m an older Mom with a 4 year old.

I am an almost 51 year old peri menopausal woman with type 2 diabetes. So far I have lost 21 lbs. I eat very limited carbs and no sugar. I try to get in as much walking as I can. It works if you work it. It is likely when we get to our goal weights that we will no longer have type 2 diabetes. I wish you the best of luck.

Hi. 1st, you've got this. I have been overweight for 25 years. This WW has worked for me. 2nd, this pic is 1. 5 years 113lbs difference. It isn't easy. I tried to cook as much as possible to control what and how much I ate. 3rd, I'm 54 and have MS and asthma. All of this was done with food. I haven't excersiced because of my two ailments. 4th, in no way was I perfect. I had days when all I ate was a bag of Doritos. 5th, love yourself and know if you move at a snail's pace. it's ok. It's better than gaining. Good luck to you on your journey ✅

You can totally do this! There are so many options now. I struggled for yrs and for me I finally adopted ww and intermittent fasting. I know it sounds weird but it was the only thing that worked for me! The best foods at my time! I’m down 84 lbs in 5 months. I have ms and a very low functioning kidney but feeling better. I have been told to loose NO more weight and that feels good! It’s hard to eat when I’ve trained myself not to! I used to love chocolate and breads and pasta. not so much now! Stick with ww no matter what you do. can’t go wrong there! Be positive. if you have a bad day just know that tomorrow is another day! You literally CAN do this friend!

I do think so! It’s the most heart-healthy plan out there. My dad was type 2, & a heart patient. I was borderline and lost some weight ( on ww) and I turned it around. High fat low carb diets just aren’t for me for those reasons. Ww is steady. I’m 62, need to lose 100+. Again.  But I’m doing it! You can too

I am a diabetic, the same age and looking to lose about about the same amount of weight. I have been successful so far. It is a slow process but it works.
