Hi Everyone!   I wanted to share an awesome tip I learned from Love, Sweat, Fitness on how to curve some of those quarantine snacking cravings.Hi Everyone!  I wanted to share an awesome tip I learned from Love, Sweat, Fitness on how to curve some of those quarantine snacking cravings.  Basically, if you want a snack that is not zero or low points, you tell yourself “Okay I can have it. but first I have to. ” Then, you give yourself a physical challenge to complete before you have the snack. ‍♀️ So, for example. I can have these Doritos, but first I have to go for a walk. Or, I can have a piece of this chocolate, but first I have to do a 10 minute abs workout on YouTube.  Then, after you complete the challenge. you can have the snack (if you still want it). Don’t forget to track it. But, sometimes you might find the craving has passed and you don’t want to undo the physical activity you just accomplished!  It’s worth a try! I think it will help me think before snacking & also give me a way to get more physical activity in. Also, for more tips on how to curb snacking check out the Love, Sweat, Fitness channel on YouTube. Does anyone do anything similar?

I hate being the bay slayer but here it goes. To me that looks like it one turning food into a reward and exercise as punishment.

@intimidate Extraordinary times sometimes call for extraordinary measures

It is a reward! Lol I am def doing this, I myself have been living off snacks since shortly after the pandemic! Thanks for this!

This sounds like a good idea!

I liked bay slayer, sounds like an 80s horror film. And I get what you're saying . However (lol) I loathe exercising from the bottom of my heart. Even if I am using food as a reward I like to look at it as positive reinforcement. LOL

@intimidate I am inclined to agree with you - you can exercise a ton and not lose weight but it sure makes you feel good and is so beneficial. Only watching food intake contributes to weight loss. Food should never be a reward - our mother’s likely did that when we were kids and that likely contributed to our weight problems. There are no “bad” foods and everything can be worked into this plan

I use the same type of idea but not something physical. I tell myself that if I really want it in 1 hour then I can have it and be done with it. I haven’t had to eat whatever I was craving because in an hour I had forgotten about it!

That's similar to how I quit smoking. Good idea to use it with food as well

If I want a snack after dinner, i make sure I hit my steps goal for the day first. If I already did, I need to get 500 more before I eat it. Lots of pacing around the house!

I will have to try this I’m going to challenge myself to hula hoop when I get a high point snack craving. Thanks for the tip

That’s pretty much what I do. If I can just hang on for 10-15 minutes and not give in, the craving typically passes.

I wish that would work for me. I have tried this. and all it did was cause me to sit in bed for 3 hours contemplating my life choices.

I like to exercise. So great tip. I drink water first before I have a snack. I may be dehydrated instead of hungry.

@olnek yes! Great addition

I do a variation of this. I’ll have a glass of water first and wait 10 minutes. If I still want the snack then I’ll have it. This way it’s more about delayed gratification instead of reward. Plus, I’m probably just thirsty and not even hungry so the water typically works

@cerebrovascular597 Oliver yes I’m going to add in water to my routine also!

I can't always get out to walk I'm not staying home, I work in medical. I give my craving 30 minutes before I give in I think about how it tastes and is it worth it, what the points will do to my plan of getting healthy. happy to say I have not given in YET

I found out that when you do so much exercise you don’t want to snack as much anymore anyway, like you said; you don’t feel it is worth it anymore! After say. a month of working out you really do begin to LOVE working out. When you see the results it feels amazing!

Also drink water. Most of the time you eat because you are bored

I do this for cleaning. But it is a food reward system I guess.
by (9.2k points)
@jemy3 like you do a chore before you have a snack?
by (16k points)
@municipal yes!
by (9.2k points)
@jemy3 love that idea, too! Maybe I’ll alternate between exercise & chores haha

I do something similar with BLT’s (bites, licks and tastes) I tell myself i have to count them as one point and it keeps me from taking them. Ex: one French fry, a lick off the peanut butter knife, a taste off someone’s plate
by (4.7k points)
@thornton6703 our meeting lead has a fun list of things like “you lick it- you Bic it” “you bite it- you write it” it’s really cute and I keep that in mind & count them just like you
by (4.4k points)
Super stars! I tend to make food for others I dont like so I avoid the blts
by (6.4k points)
@thornton6703 I wake up and automatically add blt into my snack and take 10 points off for the day and still track everything I eat. Basically I have 10 less points to start my day

I once read that if you've got a craving, first eat a dill pickle (zero points). It often kills the craving, and you haven't had any points!
