I am confused on the diabetes and free food with blue. Most fruit is full of sugar and as a diabetic is not recommended. I keep at 23 points a day, been a week and not even an ounce lost. Some days I am not eating 1000 calories?!?!? Help.

In November of last year my weight was 235 and I was diagnosed type two diabetes with my A-1 C of 6. 7 I knew I needed to make a change for the better lifestyle change. Weight watchers helps me keep on track helps me be responsible for what I put in my body. As of today my A-1 C is 5. 2 and my weight is 182 pounds. It takes time I follow the blue plan and I look for different recipes and I do eat a lot of fruits and vegetables no white foods no carbs. Good luck

Stay within your recommended dietary limits as a diabetic. The foods that are free are NOT required.

Try and stay away from grapes , cherries , melons , pineapples . They are loaded with tons of sugar . My doctor told me to only eat apples, pears , bananas . And all berries .

Agree that even though most fruits are free on WW, they are not for a diabetic. Make sure your daily points are filled with balanced protein, carbs, oils etc.

I am a juvenile diabetic and have had it for 34 years. I recently started WW and lost 7 lbs in the first 2 weeks. I try to choose the free foods that are lower in sugar. I eat some fruit but don’t overdo it.

WW is not specifically for diabetics. If you need specific advice for your situation you should speak to a nutritionist. I was type 2 diabetic and have been in the normal range for about a year. I have eaten an apple a day throughout my journey. The last time I had my a1cs done my dr said I have completely reversed my type 2 diabetes. Good luck on your journey!

Have you spoken with a dietician? They can help with good choices wrt WW. All fruit is not bad. Some are more sugar dense than others.

If you eat fruit, and you can, eat small portions. Half a banana, small apple or half medium size one, 15 grapes or cherries, tangerine, half pear, half cup blueberries or raspberries. Mango, papaya, pineapple, watermelon high in sugar.

When you know foods have more sugar than you should have because you have diabetes don’t eat it. The blue program isn’t made for only people who have diabetes.

I am type 2 . been on program since January 7 I have lost 27. 8 pounds. I’ll do what I did before I started weight watchers and I limit myself to one piece of fresh fruit a day and I watch the bread the pasta the rice and the beans very carefully. So make diabetic Friendly choices

Eat the berries, blue, rasp, and strawberries, stay away from grapes and the other fruits and see how you do. When my other half gets a drop in his diabetes I give him grapes and oranges that tells you something about those.

I still eat fruit and I’m type 2. Everything in moderation. But, there are other zero foods you can eat - veggies. Fruit tends to help stop me craving really sugary foods.

WW is not specifically for those with diabetes. you will have to tweak it to work for you. You cannot really use fruit as a zero point food but most veggies and proteins are not high in sugar.

@folacin2913 Mitchell I'm type 1 on the pump and have done very well for the last 3 years.
by (2.1k points)
@janel oh absolutely! I more mean . obviously high sugar, low point items have to avoided for those with diabetes, where as the plan allows them in surplus. Aka WW doesn’t cater only to those with diabetes, you have to make the plan work for you.
by (2.6k points)
@folacin2913 Mitchell agreed with how you have to make the plan work when your on it. With being on the pump it is easier for me to adjust with the fruits that are higher in sugar if I know that I'm going to incorporate in to my day.

Also. stay away from diet sodas. My son researched and found out that when a person drinks diet. with those artificial sweetners, our bodies taste the sweet - then our pancreas releases insulin. but then there is no sugars, now the brain starts saying WAIT I need sugar. and that's why I was craving sugar sweets after I drank a diet drink. I stopped and now I am doing better

Nibble on veggies. Keep your metabolism up and working. I'm diabetic also but get at least one fruit in a day. Pick high fiber ones like apples or pineapple, fresh cut up. It last for days in the fridge. I like it with low fat cottage cheese--diabetic friendly. Hang in there!

Complex sugars burn faster in your system refined sugar stays and turns into fats in your system. This is why it is suggested if any sugars at all it should be complex sugar just monitor the amount you are intaking Into your Body

I am diabetic and was instructed by my dietitian to eat 2 fruits a day. among other things, fruits are important in your diet, but you cannot eat a ton of them every day and expect your blood glucose to remain low. On Blue, veggies and some proteins are also 0 pts so have those too
by (5.3k points)
@phylys0 Eat the LOW Glycemic Fruits. NOT bananas, pineapple or apples. Berries are LOW and great with Full Fat Greek Yogurt. The yogurt will give you protein and pts. Keep some roasted skinless chicken breasts in the fridge to add to any meal, pasta or salad. Add chickpeas, black beans and lentils to everything.
by (1.2k points)
@phylys0 i eat fruit or anything with wheat my sugar goes way up!

I'm type 2 as well. I know all the fruit on WW is a NONO for me. Stick to Berries, strawberries blackberries etc. And Please Please speak to a diabetes educator or your doctor. You should be eating protein and whenever you have a carb you have to have a protein with it. That's just some advice before you can get to see your Doc or Educator. If I can help in any way feel free to send me a PM. Good luck

As a diabetic you can eat fruit, but stick to berries and watermelon. did you actually count the calories you are eating, or guessing that it was 1000. You could be over eating the free foods. free of a point value, does not mean free of calories.

I eat fruits. Apples oranges, clementines and grape fruit. Watermelon and melon and berries. Sometimes papaya and mango. I fast and do WW. I keep an old WW Cookbook with all kinds of foods and so on. Portion controle and intermittent fasting. It helped to reverse diabetes and HBP. Do check with your doctor. For me help came too late and I had to figure out most of what I do to help myself and save my life. The side effects of the meds to reduce blood sugar almost gave me a heart attack. Now my blood sugar is low. The A1c too.

Your doctor should recommend a set amount of carbs per day. I am sure most doctors would recommend a balanced diet including a couple servings of fruit per day. Eating carbs with a serving of protein does help slow down the sugar hit into your bloodstream. Btw I have been diabetic for almost 40 years. Get some guidance from your doc or a dietician

You need to give up trying to count calories -- give in to the points, pay attention to portion sizes, don't worry about fruit unless you need to for health (diabetes). You might take a little while for your body to start giving up the weight -- it's a process, as they say.

I have fresh fruit 3 times a day, as long as you’re having enough protein you’re good. WW is a lifestyle that works if you work it! I had a bad stroke and almost didn’t come out if it. I was given TP-A. I knew I had to change my lifestyle, and this lit a fire under Under my butt! I cut out all junk found and alcohol for 2 months, stayed within my daily SP, workout 5X a week, and I do IF. I’m great! I’m off all my old 8 RX meds for HBP, high cholesterol, arthritis, gout, heart, back, diabetes! My A1C went from 10 to 4. 5! BMI was 33. 9, now 23. 7. I’m the healthiest I’ve been in my life! Good luck, enjoy your journey!

@gironde3621 @bridge Connors amazing job. Congratulations. I’m upping my food intake especially protein.
by (410 points)
@gironde3621 @bridge Connors That’s super impressive. Especially your A1 C number! May I ask how poorly did you eat before? I mean, were you eating a lot of McDonald’s type foods or Dunkin’ Donuts or a lot of ice cream/chips (? ), or what did most of your diet consist of because that seems like an extreme decrease!
by (4.2k points)
@mckellar I am a chocoholic! Plus I used to eat a ton of potato chips with chocolate every night, 5-6 SB Venti London Fogs with 7 pumps a week! Some fast foods, I was mostly a sweet eater! I would have nights were I ate a whole bag of chips with 2-3 candy bars and ice cream! I still can’t believe how I used to eat, compared to his I do now. WW saved me!
by (410 points)
@gironde3621 @bridge Connors I don’t think the chocolate would be that harmful, but I could see the ventis and chips might be harmful. I am a late night eater because I am up after midnight and I probably eat 90% of my calories then… So I am impressed by you. Keep up the good work!

The previous versions of WW point system took better account of sugar in food, like fruits, and I think was better for diabetics and people with insulin-resistent conditions. I also would recommend contacting your doctor and considering looking up the previous point system.
by (160 points)
@girasol97749 I think I did better with the previous point system that didn't have free foods in it. How would I look that up? I used to have a little handheld calculator that had a battery oh, but I can't find it now.
by (670 points)
@meingolda Anglin Yeah I also lost more weight and felt better on the previous point system. I still have old printed versions of the point system somewhere. I'll see if I can find it and upload it on here.
by (1.1k points)
@meingolda Anglin you can choose the plan which has the least amount of free food, either the green or purple. Since I didn’t transition from the blue plan I didn’t really pay attention to which one has the least free food. It was to be more like the original.

I am not a physician, but I believe you are correct. Fruit is full of natural sugar, and while it may show 0 cal or to be a “free food” on WW, Truth is that’s like saying just because a state opens up means that coronavirus is no longer a threat. It’s all BS! Chicken, esp prepared, has calories. Fruit has calories. Almost everything that is on zero points still has calories so if someone is eating too much food were more than your body I guess requires for the amount of exercise they do, we will be gained or at least not lost in my opinion. Obviously, Weight Watchers and millions of people don’t agree with me, but that’s my opinion
by (10.4k points)
@mckellar. I agree you can't over do your portions. It will get you in trouble. But they are good to go to options. Are just on a regular basis.
by (2.1k points)
@mckellar I think weight watchers is trying to say if you MUST over eat fruit and other zero point food is better choices compared to those with points. It’s common sense if you stuff yourself with any food you will gain weight, even if you drink 30L of water you will weigh more. Again it’s about making positive choices when you just have to have something and over eat.

I remember in the previous point system a large banana was like 3-4 points and whole apple was 2 points b/c it took in account that bananas have more sugar and less fiber than apples. That's why I eat apples, which was the lowest point fruit, all the time.
