Research the area you will be hiking and find out what others do. Some trails offer drinkable water along the trail which eliminates the hassle of carrying all your water (the heaviest need). After that figure out what supplies you will need including a small first aid kit (homemade ok) and other supplies. Next food supplies: nuts, beef jerky, dried fruit, and something sweet like gummy bears. You could also look into dehydrated meals for backpacking. They probably sell them at your local Walmart. The food required during a trip like this may be more points than you normally consume, but the short duration and increased activity will balance that out.

@tybi0 my son camps a lot. They do not carry water it’s too heavy. He has a piece of equipment which filters the water and makes it safe to drink. Not sure where you are but he got his at REI.

@tybi0 I live somewhere where everywhere is backwoods camping. I’ve done quite a bit but I was always on Keto.

Beef jerky or turkey sticks. If planning to cook - take something frozen. Double or triple wrap it. Pasta would be good.

I would take grated cheese, lots of veggies, and extra 3 items of canned food, just in case I was stuck out on mountain an extra day . this is a suggestion only.

Thank you for all the advice! I’m loving the tuna and mayo suggestion, as well as nuts and dried fruit.

If your backpacking your burning Calories that you need to replace. Look at backpacking food. Freeze dried. Its got better over the years . Dont eat a whole packet. There are alot of different options at REI. But you need strength to keep going. I suggest a g. o. r. p. for the day with a small block of cheddar. cheese. Not a whole lot but it's good protien so you can hike. Protien during the day and carbs at night to continue the next day. And drink as much water as you can.

I agree with @superintend92289 we hunt alot and its lots of walking and dragging etc. Your body needs more during those times.

I wonder if the applesauce pouches for kids lunches would be unsweetened and light to carry?
