What internet router is everyone using to have best signal for your arlo system?

@overwind run the test again and see if it's any different. Even though the lights are fully on after you plugged it back in, it's traffic is increased for a little while after reboot because it's sending signals to all your WiFi devices in the house to reconnect and sync everything. That can take some time. What can help with WiFi traffic is to use the Ethernet plugs as much as you can in the back of your modem/router so the air traffic isn't as busy.

@overwind And those tests are only testing your WiFi signal speed, not the hardwire/Ethernet speed. You'll have to find a device attached to Ethernet that will test the connection itself in it's settings to get a good idea what your real, hardwired internet speed is.

@overwind good. Last thing I'd try is to make the wifi channel set to "auto", if it isn't already. If you're then still getting crappy WiFi speeds, I'd wonder if your antenna is going bad.

@overwind okay. So based on your new one being hit-or-miss on the signal, it definitely sounds like interference. Be sure your nighthawk is set to automatic channel selection and I'd move that arlo station as far away from the router as you can get it. Obviously it still needs to be wired via Ethernet, but I think as the Arlo station is communicating with the cameras, it's messing with your router.

Just try and keep something as big as a TV or another wireless device out from between the cameras and the station.

@overwind refer to this when it comes to changing your wifi channel. Where it says to select a channel number, there should be an automatic option to choose.

I have the Arlo Pro 2 and because Arlo has a Smart Hub or base station it doesn’t use a signal (WiFi) to/from the router. The Smart Hub plugs into your primary router via Ethernet (cat5/cat6) cable. in my opinion, if you want the best performance from your Arlo System, upgrade your Cable Modem if that’s how you connect to your ISP. (Internet Service Provider). New modems have much faster capabilities than those made just a a few short years ago. I would recommend a “docsis 3. 1” modem that is comparable with your ISP. They use multiple data streams for superior performance. Such as a Netgear CM1000 or similar.

@overwind yea, distance from the Hub and home construction materials will likely be the most significant influences for signal loss. Every wall or floor the signal hast to penetrate degraded the signal received by the Smart Hub.

@overwind yes. But all of my current cameras are indoors. Outdoor cameras create a whole different set of factors I’m not familiar with.

Many people don't realize that Arlo base may interfere with your wifi setup as it uses it's own wifi signals. You need to be aware of placement/power strength. I've set mine up away from my AP so it's not next to each other.

@airminded570 yea that can help. It’s best to make sure your WiFi router is in “automatic” radio mode to help prevent interference from a Smart Hub signal. My Smart Hum is right next to one of my routers with no issues.

@overwind I ditched my $250 nighthawk cause it kept dropping and had no support from Netgear whatsoever. I've stopped recommending Nighthawks

@singsong I actually don't recommend automatic because the routers aren't as smart as you think. It's best to manually do a wifi scan and see which channels are congested and then set your wifi router to the least congested.

@overwind I spent days learning about Ubiquiti products. It's a bit more advanced than consumer stuff but after extensive research and $500 my entire house is 100% signal and not a single issue with drops. For a consumer I've been recommending Google Wi-Fi's. If you want to go all out look into a Ubiquiti Ultimate Dream Machine.

I use nighthawk as modem only and have Orbi as my satellites (one router and two satellites). But you can get less. I have cameras inside as well as outside (about 25 yards away from the house and about 40 yards from nearest Orbi satellites). It covers 7500 sq ft. Also I live in the country and Mediacom is the only option and their equipment suck. So I needed this much equipment for my Arlo to work efficiently. Everything depends on your provider and how much coverage.

Nighthawk R8000P, but I lose a bar on the 2 cameras that are installed on the detached garage. I have full bars on the 2 cameras that are installed on our home closer to the router. I researched for a repeater, but jury is mixed. So, my question - any recommendation for a repeater that does not compromise the integrity of the router?

Using Ubiquiti Unifi. Had Meraki before which was also great, but expensive. But not everyone wants to pay for what it costs, but it’s worth it. Had Unifi for 5-6 years now.
