I'm reading comments that the cameras are not good at detecting motion approaching the camera. Only side to side motion. I purchased cameras to detect anyone coming through gate at rear and approaching house, and also coming up steps towards front of house. Should I twist the cameras 90 degrees sideways so they think approaching objects are crossing the field of vision? The night lights work when motion is detected though. Does this trigger recording to start?

Post a screenshot of what the camera sees and we'll get a better idea about what you should do to optimise motion detection

Mine gets everything from the two poles behind the car towards the camera. I have no issue with objects coming towards the camera. Yes the nightlights triggers the recordings instantly.

@dahl7 it detects side to side motion. Arlo customer service will tell you the same. Might be the way your camera is situated
