Anyone a military family?  My husband came home spitting out deployment.Anyone a military family? My husband came home spitting out deployment. ugh how do you budget this isn’t our first rodeo but the first time during my budget journey. I’m excited because it’s a lot more income and I can work on pay debt but I’m also nervous because I don’t want to not be able to have fun either my kids are 12, 8, 4 and I try to make sure I keep their minds off the deployment.

My husband is military, and my grandpa gave us the best tip. Stick to your current budget, any thing extra put into savings. I know debt and things are important, but my grandparents are not in debt and have 5 or 6 properties.

We will be paying off our debt with deployment too. We’ve had the discussion that I will budget a little more for a fun envelope for my daughter and I to get out of the house and do things more. It helps to stay busy. Adding a little bit of “fun” is not going to take much away from the increased income to go to debt!

Maybe a museum or zoo pass? We have those in Pittsburgh. Very affordable and good to use all year. You can also do some fun activities at home. My kiddos love board games, cooking and baking. And maybe budget one fun thing out a week like a movie. We have a chain of theatres called AMC and they have a $10 night. You get your movie ticket, popcorn and a drink! It’s a great deal.

We sat down and figured out how much he would need for in port. He’s navy on subs so he was only able to spend money while in port. We accounted for eating at restaurants, hotels, and if he wanted to get snacks or other toiletries. We used a separate account t for him to use. Since I was home paying bills and debt he was not “allowed” to touch the regular account. Even if he needed more money I was the one to transfer it over since I knew our financial situation better.
