Hey guy, I don’t know if this is really budget related but I really need an outsider point of view. I’m currently a raising senior in college studying organizational communication. I’m almost done with my degree but if I’m honest I don’t really love it! Throughout the years I have always joked about being a dermatologist, I love skin care and all regarding skin, I enjoy it, but my counselors have always disregard the idea. And rather give other options such as pharmaceutical sales representative or public health. But, that’s not me, I don’t like the idea of relying on a job that could fire me at anytime if I don’t make enough sales. Now as I end my undergrad years, I’m undecided of wether I want to take that route to medical school, and accumulate that much debt. I’m blessed enough to not have any debt as of right now, but I’m so undecided on what to do. I could graduate college debt free, and then accumulate a huge debt and be in school for a few years. I do want to start a family and have kids, and work. I know by going to medical school (if I get accepted, that would mean no work for a while, and although I’m blessed enough to have my college paid, it wouldn’t be nice of my part to put that weight on my parents) Any dermatologist here? Or any suggestions on what to do.

@petaliferous have you ever worked in a dermatologist office or shadowed in one? I would suggest that before committing to med school.

That and dermatology is a very difficult specialty to get into

I work for a dermatologist and I know he paid his loans off within the first few years. I dont know the finer points. I know he didnt have much if any debt going into med school and his wife worked for awhile. But hes currently a successful Mohs surgeon and loves his job. Go for what you want

Not a dermatologist but I do have an undergrad degree in organizational communication and have never used it - I have never in 30 years seen a job description saying we really need someone who understands the big picture, I have looked at countless hiring managers who ask “ what’s organizational communication”
