I do my budget monthly instead of biweekly since the last paycheck of the month will be put towards savings&debt. We started our year with discontinuing our flexible spending, reason being that they told us the wrong date to turn in our receipts so we ended up losing a lot of money last year. ‍♀️ I want to open a “medical expense fund. ” What are other options and how much should we save for 4 kids?

That’s horrible about your flexible spending account. I have a credit card for mine and it is such a blessing.

It may be too late now because of enrollment being closed but have you looked into getting a high deductible plan that allows you to have an HSA instead. If your family is pretty healthy, this is a good option because it allows you to invest, get tax savings, and you don't lose the money. For this year, I would save medical expenses in a high yield savings account

We try to save our oop max. I divided it by 12 and that goes into savings each month.

I would look into HSA within your company. Once open enrollment comes up max it out. If you know you'll have big expenses like braces or something opt for a limited FSA for that next year in addition to your HSA.
