Observation post: I keep noticing so many people write things like “it’s a small victory, but. ” “it’s not much, but” “ it may not be big, but. ” This posts make me sad/mad! Why must we make our achievements small?! Obviously they are accomplishments! All accomplishments need to be celebrated! Im not sure why it bothers me so much, enough to post. This is my first post, hi everyone!

Yes! I completely agree! Quite a few of those “small victories” aren’t that small either.

I have been thinking the same thing, changing our thinking, and then our habits is a huge, major win. I think the hardest! For me, small wins are big ones and pave the way for bigger ones in a few years!

I’ve had the same thoughts as you. I think it’s a woman thang. We down play ourselves sometimes. Not me tho! I just paid off a loan today! Poof! Last payment! $210 free monthly to snowball the hell outta my debt!

I got a residual check of $20 this week and sent it straight to debt. Win! I recently read something about writing out your future self. The choices you make today determine your future self. That $20 payment was for my future self.

Agreed! Every step into becoming debt free is huge! And worthy of celebrating!

Agree. Diminishing the small victories can be defeating over time. If all you this is "it's not much" it's hard to keep going.

For me, they are “small” because they may not be a debt pay off or similar but they are a step in the right direction and I can see my behavior and habits changing. Like putting back a jacket I didn’t need the other day rather than impulse buy. I’m over 130k In debt, not including our house so that $30 I didn’t spend is a small victory but in the grand scheme of things it’s impact right now is minimal.

Well said! All progress to a goal is worthy. The small steps add to the bigger steps in a process or journey.

I'm on a weight loss journey too and my dietician told me stop being sad and celebrate every win so my 2lbs weight loss this week is better than zero or gaining which has been the trend. Celebrate and don't worry about the size of the victory but that it is a victory or you can sabatoge yourself. Love that woman and her nuggets of wisdom. Size doesn't matter but a winning does so a win is a win.

Boom! You are so right! It minimizes what the person is celebrating and quite frankly it’s discouraging to read all the time. Celebrate. The big and the small wins. And keep celebrating

Welcome Sofia! Great point. I know that a while back on a non-money related thing I was dealing with about excuses, it was pointed out that the part of the sentence before the "but" should stand on its own - it doesn't need to be qualified with the but. Reading your post, I actually realised that sharing our achievements this way with the but automatically reduces their significance - even if we weren't using words to make them small in the first place.
