If you have a mortgage and you’re in a flood zone then yes you have to have it. You can lower it each year to match how much you owe on your home. If you are in a flood zone and you’ve never gotten a certificate of elevation you can look into getting one to help lower the cost of your flood insurance.

@appoint this! If you’re considered to be in a flood zone and you drop uIT, your normal homeowners policy will NOT cover any flood damage. Definitely contact your mortgage company for required coverage amount and then get that coverage. Thankspically people don’t get a separate flood policy unless it is required by the mortgage company so verify verify verify!

Does your mortgage company require it? What flood zone did the letter say you’re in?

If you are in a flood zone you need to have it. If you are on the edge of one where it's not required, you should still get it. We are 2 houses away from where its required but we have it.
