Ok so our washer finally bit the dust! What brand do you recommend? We had Samsung and had nothing but issues. Also top vs front loader?

We have a samsung and I love it so I’m no help there. But top loader over front loader for sure! I’ll never go back to a front loader.

Top loader for sure! I love our LG. Had them for over 3 years now with no issues.

I just recently bought a Maytag top loader without an agitator and I LOVE it! I was hesitant to get one without an agitator because of some reviews I had read about them not cleaning as well. But I read the manual and load the machine as instructed and it works great!

Call Samsung! We had SAME problem. It was under recall but did not know it. They offered to come fix the recall issue for free then reinstate a 1 yr manufacturers warranty to fix other issues. Since we live out of their service area they offered a refund. Worth calling and being persistent We bought a Speedqueen. We LOVE it. A bit more of an investment but so worth it. I had no idea how unclean-much my last washer was not doing a good job!

@foveola what issue did you have with yours That was under recall?
by (6.6k points)
@affianced ours was some latch to keep the lid from flying open which it never did. The locking lid still worked. The reason I called was it would ding unbalanced every 10-12 min (took forever to keep babysitting and restarting the load) even w very few items it in and the gears also sounded as if they were grinding. To the point could not do laundry while attempting to sleep in the other end of the house (it was very loud)
by (290 points)
@foveola oh ok. Not the same as mine. I was hoping it would be so that if there was a recall and they never said anything when I called about mine I could get them for that.
by (6.6k points)
@affianced did you ask specifically if there were recalls?
by (6.6k points)
@affianced how old is it? Ours said 10 year warranty (in what I do not know)
by (290 points)
@foveola I did not. We had a technician approved by them come out and look at it and he determined what the problem was and said there was a service bulletin out regarding our issue and for me to call Samsung. When I called they said they no longer make the part. We asked to speak to someone higher up. which they told us there was no one else to speak to because they were not going to escalate it and nothing could be done. It’s 2. 5 years old. We bought at Best Buy and we were told we had a one year warranty.

@affianced keep calling and ask for resolution department if needed. The first person asked me if I would accept a rebate of $1. 18! Ummmm NOPE. Keep trying honey. Called back and got someone else. There is always someone higher. I always tell them The CEO of Samsung does not answer the customer service line! Be persistent. It’s a pain but maybe a huge benefit. In our case mostly due to location and not servicing in our area (45 minutes from the next largest town)we got almost a full refund of the machine. Contrary to their belief we live in an area w washers and dryers!

@foveola thank you. It’s been awhile since I’ve called but I can start calling everyday again if need be

@affianced at least untilmyou get someone that sounds like they have half a clue

Go old school, basic. My Maytags have been running for 12 years with not one issue.

I had to buy a new washer last month. We got a front loader for efficiency and with my hand issues from RA, it’s easier for me to get clothes and blankets in and out of a front loader than the ones with the agitator. Plus high efficiency claim. I do wipe down the rubber after I’m done washing for the day but I’m glad that the Lg has a little door stop so the washer door doesn’t close all the way allowing it to dry. We have ours in a laundry room with a bright light but the other thing I don’t like is the sdisplay isn’t backlit. It would be frustrating without a flash light if you have a dark room or basement. Otherwise I can’t complain!

Word of advice. if you go with the top loader, make sure you can reach all the way in. I'm 5'3" and have to use a step stool to reach all the way in.
by (850 points)
5'2" and I had to buy a step stool just for getting into my top loader
by (6k points)
@koss83757 I’m 5’6” and I can’t reach the bottom of mine, I swear the step stool didn’t help but make me taller and farther away from the bottom  maybe I just have freakishly short arms . Now I just make my husband pull the laundry out ‍♀️

I bought a grabber from bed bath and beyond haha

We purchased an LG through Costco. No complaints, we did research through Consumer Reports prior to buying. We have front loading machines because we can only fit stackable machines in our laundry room.

I have a Kenmore top loader with the biggest drum option and I love it so much. I’ve had Samsung and Whirlpool front loaders in the past and they were total junk.

Top loader is the only way to go! The only issue I have with it is I have to use liquid soap can’t use the pods which is way cheaper so ok by me! Love mine gets them extremely ringed our so less dry time, plus! Whirlpool-Cabrio- Model- WTW8500DW0 holds about 3 loads at a time. I have had it 4 years no issues

LG. We were told by an appliance mechanic that he works on that brand the least! I was told to buy Maytag and we did and the computer went out a little over a year after having it so it was t under warranty

We're looking for a new washer and dryer too. We have an LG top loader and I can't stand it. Its constantly trying to balance the load, no matter what you do. Waste of time and massive waste of water. This is a known problem with this particular washer. I want something totally basic!

Love my LG. Our dryer died after 11 years and the washer is still going.

We hated our Samsung appliances (fridge stove washer and dryer- top loaders). We moved onto GE and it’s been good so far!

I should feel lucky. Both 12 years old and no issues. I purchased what consumers report recommended year after year after year to the point they stopped evaluating it and mentioned it. It didn’t have all the steam features etc so really couldn’t compare. Well worth my month of membership. Kenmores

We sell speed queen at the stores my family owns. You want to talk about a washer and dryer built to last. Good chance you wouldn’t buy another for 20 years. If/when we have to buy another, that’s what we’ll be getting.

I went from the Samsung front load (it was awful! ) to the LG top load and so far I’m happy with it.

Top loader. I had a front loader that was the bane of my existence, every day I would say a prayer to the universe for it to die so I could justify replacing it - but no, that machine was going to run forever just to spite me. I ended up biting the bullet and just buying a new top loader. Ours are the whirlpool cabrios and I love them. Speed Queens by far are the best, but they are pricey and don’t often have all the bells and whistles.

I love a top load. I want a Speed Queen-- they are supposed to work horses that can be repaired, when needed.! Maybe soneday.

We got some good advice that it depends on where you live. If water is cheap (Midwest) get a top load. If water is expensive where you live (California) get a front load.

Whirlpool or Kenmore. My hubs was an appliance repair man for 16 years. My whirlpool is almost 30 years old. Never get Samsung.

Maytag or whirlpool and not the ones with the computers. once the computer goes, it's junk or costs tons to fix.

Top load! Brand- unsure since we’ve had ours for a while, but they’re whirlpool and we bought them new. Never had one issue and we’ve had them for 5 years. Front loaders smell like mildew

We had a Samsung. It rusted out in 5 years. They are made with cheap thin metal. I saved and bought a Speed Queen last July. Best decision ever. Our clothes have never been cleaner.

I’ve had my front load Whirlpool Duet set since 2006. I’ve only had to have the heating element replaced in the dryer. (which I took care of myself thanks to YouTube). My husband and I have been married 27 years and this was the second set we bought. First set? Yep, Whirlpool.
