Anyone have any tips/suggestions for saving money on contacts and eyeglasses? I need both and my local eye doctor is great. but the prices are crazy high, even with vision insurance.

Zenni Optical online - I’ve ordered a bunch from them! Super cheap and they’re awesome!

@cyrillus do you have to have an rx? Also do you know if they go up to +7. 25?
by (5.9k points)
@byng9 Friske you’ll enter your prescription yourself so grab that from your doctor and I’m not sure how high it goes up off the top of my head. Sorry!

@cyrillus oh it’s okay and thanks!

@byng9 Friske They do, they just charge you $9 I think! I have -7. 5!

Make sure to use rakuten with some of the sites suggested. I've gotten great deals with money back through rakuten(ebates) in the past as a first time customer

I buy my contacts through 1800 contacts, it’s been the cheapest for me. For glasses I bought two pair off Zenni. com for leas than $30 together and they’re the best! I’ll never overspend on glasses again!

I use Walgreens for my contacts and order them online. They always have coupon codes (25-30% off) and you can use reward dollars, AND Rakuten always had cash back for Walgreens, sometimes up to 10%. I just price checked and it's cheaper than Contact Lens King.

I get mine off daysoft. com. I get 2 boxes of 32 for less than $20. Supposed to be daily wear, but I've made that stretch a bit.  Takes about 2 weeks to get here, have been ordering for years. They're basic lenses, and I do have astigmatism, but I can see well enough with them.

For contacts 1800 Contacts with price match from another website. I have astigmatism, for a full year I believe it was $170. My optical or without price match it would be closer to $350!

Not sure if it's the same where you live, but here in South Africa you can just change the lenses. So you keep your existing frame and purchase new lenses. The frame is very expensive, but the lenses are cheap in comparison

I try glasses on in the stores then write down or take a picture of all of the model numbers and sizes on the frames I like. Next I go online and search for the frames. Last time I think I used frames direct. I saved over $100 on the frames. Then when the frames arrived I took them to Costco to get the prescription filled. It’s not the fastest way but it was the cheapest way for me to get a pair of frames I knew I would like.

I’ve been going to my eye doc for my exams and then I got to Walmart optical to buy my glasses, I paid $100 for two pairs! So much cheaper. I would not recommend getting your eye exam there, I did it once and they nickel and dimed me at the end.

I dropped vision insurance 3 years ago. If you sign up for emails from Visionworks if they’re in your area they do eye exams for $65 or sometimes cheaper and my husband and I both got 2 pair of glasses for $29. They’re good quality and you can’t beat having glasses and sunglasses made for $29 total

Get the frames and lenses from the eye doctor, have them write you a prescription for contacts, look online for contact delivery websites. Sometimes you can submit them to insurance for reimbursement or get a mail in rebate for purchasing so much at once.

Zenni Optical is the best!  It doesn't matter what your prescription is. they can do anything! I went from buying $600 glasses at LensCrafters to spending $6-30 on glasses with zenni!
