Hello, I noticed a post awhile back about tax returns being delayed this year. I’m currently at day 27 since I filed my taxes and I’m starting to feel paranoid that maybe I did something wrong. When I check the refund site it reads that my taxes are still being processed. Is this the case for most or should I contact IRS? I know the website says you can contact them after 21 days. ‍♀️

If you had the earned income credit and additional child tax credit they did not start processing til feb 15

I do have those, so would the 21 days start on Feb 15?

Do you see red or orange bars? Or no bars, just a sentence saying processing?
by (470 points)
@salvatore I had the bar but the bar went away about two weeks ago. My fiancé filed about a week after me, and his bar just went away two days ago

@salvatore both have a sentence saying processing.

@oid74200 if the bar went away that most likely means yours was pulled for some reason. You can look at the transcript to see the code, which will tell you why. If you go to the homepage where you check status, click get tax records. Make sure you have the info it needs, create an account. On your transcript it will have the reason code. Mine says 570. which is income verification. It could take 60 more days  hopefully your code is minor.

@oid74200 this is just what I am going through and others who say the bars disappeared.

@salvatore it said my information didn’t match my most recent filed. I changed my last name this year. I was trying to log in with my new name. Do you think I should have put my last name from last year? It said I can’t try again for 24hrs

@oid74200 maybe call the tax advocate number. They can tell you why the bars disappeared and tell you where it’s at.

Acceptance is usually within the day or so processing takes up to 21 days depending on if there is a hold on your return or not app they have doesn't give much of an explanation but the website might be more helpful. If I were you I'd call just to be sure and get a full account of what has happened.

@mastership I don’t see a number to call.

That's what I got from the app for individuals.

@mastership I found that I just called and it was automated and told me exactly what it said online.

@oid74200 you don't want to select whatever option it asks about status you need to speak with an actual person I usually select 0 till it gives me an option on talking to a representative or something along those lines. I've never had to call them so I'm not sure the steps to take I never get enough to warrant the need to excessively watch for it.

I filed January 22, and had to wait for the EIC and Child tax to be released in the 15th, and I received my taxes on the 25th.

Thank you for all the responses. I think I’m going to try and meditate and breathe and see what happens. If I have no change by the end of the week I’m going to go into the local irs office and ask someone on Friday.
