Does anyone else feel like giving up? Throwing in the towel and saying screw it? That’s me today. I feel like a complete failure. I can’t seem to get the hang of it. I try and then something happens that feels like a complete set back! This too shall pass! Fighting on!
Does anyone else feel like giving up?

I felt this way (and did) for a long time. What helped me was getting a personal finance coach. I use TBM products, but my finance coach I can call, email, and FaceTime pretty much whenever I need. We have quarterly meetings to go over everything. It’s really helped keeping me accountable.

@throe where did you find this service? And is it expensive?
by (12.6k points)
@britzka I use the financial gym. Check out the podcast martini’s and your money (Shannon Mclay) she is the founder. I pay $85 a month. I know that’s a lot for some people, but it’s seriously the best $85 a month I have spent. You get a 1 on 1 trainer that will go through all your finances step by step and make out a budget and help you set financial goals. Between this and TBM we have really been able to set ourselves up on a great path.

I have felt the same way. Start small and figure out your 4 walls first. You can do this.

Hang in there. It’s hard and some days will be a struggle but just keep your “WHY” in your site and where you want to be.

I couldn’t sleep because of this. Idk if I just had a bad month at work, (tipped employee) or if I just totally screwed up. If I ran the numbers right I’ll only have $90 until next paycheck. That’s just my rent and utilities that doesn’t include food/gas/ necessities. I usually have a decent amount left over so idk where my money went. I’ve been writing down my expenses I just don’t understand how I basically have nothing left. I just got paid Friday.

I have been freaking out all weekend because I had an insurance payment that was extra low. So now I feel as if i am going to overdraw my account when the check comes through. I have reanalyzed this about 20 times because I go into sheer panic mode every time it crosses my mind. You are not alone in this. Trust me.

It’s hard but it’s the only way to change (financially) and make progress. Try to think of other times in life in which you’ve overcome obstacles. How did you cope? What kept you persevering? You’ve done this before (struggle/overcome) and can do it again!

That's where I am at right now. Don't think I've ever been this low in my life.

I’ve only been doing this since January, but find that it’s a learning process and that I have to tweak things to work for my life. Don’t give up!

Yes, I’ve lost sleep over it. I was doing great and overspent this weekend which I haven’t done in months. Now I have to pull from my EF to cover what I overspent. It’s stressful! It will take me a long time to put back to my EF what I have to pull out.

Remember how you feel at this moment. It will help you moving forward.

Can you take some things back?
by (2k points)
@chandra no, we had a cheer competition for my daughter so I blew money on fees for that and we ate out 3 times since we were away from home! I just redid my budget and figured out a new way to adjust. Just stressful that I didn’t plan to spend what I did.

Same. every time I think I’m getting ahead I go back 10 steps. I was doing good and my son got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Starter medicine was over $600. 00. but he of course is my priority. Just a reminder to myself that if I was debt free that wouldn’t have been such a financial blow.

Yes. I'm in the same boat. I'm starting my new job today and until the paychecks start coming in my bf and I don't even make enough money to pay all of our bills. I worked full time until I had my daughter 20 months ago and that's when our debt started. Of course at the time I had just cleaned up my debt and had a 756 score so the cars and credit cards are all in my name. Now my score is 553. I was only working part time after my daughter bc day care was too expensive and I got denied state help. Luckily now I found a company with flexible hours so I can go to work as soon as my bf gets home. I'm hopefully to get my credit back in order.

I am just really starting and I do feel a bit overwhelmed. I hope you keep pushing forward. One thing to keep in mind is that you are completely changing how you approach your financials. You have been managing a certain way for a long time. If you're anything like me, you are trying to go all in, all at once. I never ever pace myself. One thing that I am doing to start is just get used to using the system, not to set any extravagant goals. Understand what I am spending and figuring out where I can make the specific cuts I need and start there. Before I would set unrealistic goals and then be mad that I'm not doing what I expected. In this case go in saying I'm going to save $500/month and pay $500/month extra toward debt would be unrealistic. I'm not setting any of those goals until I get used to tracking daily, using my envelopes and getting myself and my spending under control. At least that's what I'm telling myself right now. we will see how well I do. I just know it's a process and I know that you will get the hang of it. so many people have had so much success however, everyone's situations are different and timeframes and scenarios are different. I've also heard Miko say that they can fluctuate month to month and not to be to hard on yourself. Part of why we do all the budgets and tracking is to be able to see where we are spending and not spending and adjust everything accordingly. Sending you a big virtual hug. You got this!

I found it easier for me to focus on staying within my budget and my savings goals more so than trying to bust my booty to pay off my debt. Hang in there we got this

Yes. Right there with you. As soon as I get the emergency fund funded, something else happens. I’ll never be out of debt at this rate.

Don’t give up! The first two months I was ready to give up too. Finally got a handle on the budget & the tracker. I still haven’t tackled the other pages (seem overwhelming). Setbacks will always happen and be unexpected but now with tracking you will have a better understanding your budget and how to move things around. You got this!

I am helping my sister get started after doing this for six months myself. When we figured out her expenses she had zero money to go into any envelopes except food. No sinking funds, no other envelopes. We found a way to refinance her house and pay off her credit card debt and now she has $300 a month for envelopes and sinking funds. Not a lot but she is learning that even putting away five dollars a month for a beauty routine allows her to spend cash for everything and leave those credit cards alone even if she doesn’t get to buy everything she wants. Keep going it only gets better

It can definitely be overwhelming. I'm just getting started and undoing all of my bad habits is NOT easy. But I also don't want to continue living the way that I have. I want my debt to go away and I want to be able to take my kids on vacation every once in a while.

I had a moment like that this month saved €95 in the savings challenges for feb then my SO didnt get paid this week (first week on a new job they 'lost his papers') but in the end I was so glad to have that savings if it wasn't for TBM we would have been super stuck. Hang in there with little steps you'll achieve goals and gain motivation

Sure! Today. If money was simple we would have figured it out a long time ago. Some days we just have other things going on. It's not a race. It's change and that takes time. Hang in there. I am.
