So my husband and I are suppose to go on a cruise in Nov for our 20 year anniversary. I’m concern about the cornavirus enough to explore other options. We have enough save to cash flow a vacation but need other ideas just in case we decide that the cruise isn’t for us. Any suggestions for a vacation in the US? Thanks everyone

I'd be likely to throw a dart at a map. But I'm terrible at planning

I have a cruise coming up in September out of New Orleans. I look at it this way. We only live once. Even if you don’t go you could still catch it. People who live around you travel also. As someone said if you aren’t going to the major area of Japan you are fairly safe.

I love Maine coastline ! But I’d go in summer. @odie4 where I live if you like history, beaches and mountains !

@luckin as a native Mainer, I have to agree with you!

@saxony679 I would move there if I could ! Love winter but not that much lol. It’s unfortunately a 12+ hour drive from me but I’ve been twice.

I’d keep it on the books. Did you get insurance for your trip? Does it cover cancellations? (I was planning my SILs yesterday and she opted out of all insurances despite me saying they were super helpful and great for just in case) In November, most of the big places are already going to be packed shoulder to shoulder. What about a cabin campground? National parks? A nice hotel in town for a staycation and save the rest for a big trip after this has blown over?

I would keep it for now. November is a long way off.

Honestly, if you’re worried about a cruise, you should consider something where there aren’t a lot of people. Otherwise, it’s really not going to be any less of a risk.

Our next cruise is booked for January 2021. As soon as priced drop because of the fear mongering media I will book at least one or two more

Uh norovirus?!  Pass.

@pallaton THANK YOU! Not enough money in the world for me to go on a cruise.
by (2.5k points)
@pallaton my last cruise was a 7 day, and I got sick with Norovirus on day 4. Which means I probably got it on day 1.  I spent 3 days in the floor of the bathroom. That was 12yrs ago. Haven’t been on one since.

That’s awful! My boyfriend loves cruises and I refuse to go. Freaks me out lol.

We are cruising in May. I'm not worried at all. Not to mention. come November. this will have faded away.
by (2.1k points)
@ramadan that’s what I said also! My husband is the one in doubt. Lol
by (900 points)
@smriti2 if the media frenzy even makes it that long. once November hits and elections are over. this will fade. Just like the Zika and Ebola fear mongering did.  Don't let it stop you from cruising. If you've already planned and saved for it. go. Plus, odds are, if you got insurance, it's not going to cover you on a refund for cancellation due to worry over the virus.

Were going in 2 weeks. Not the slightest bit worried.

By then the coronavirus will be spread far and wide I'm sure. I'm not so scared of it but as for cruise wise I wouldn't wanna go on a cruise because if you have to be quarantined just look at that cruise ship. yea they get a refund and a 100% expenses paid trip. but 2 weeks locked up in your room waiting to catch the flu pretty much sucks

In November? I’d keep it and honestly if this bug isn’t a passing memory by then I’d be surprised. Between warmer temps and some magical vaccine produced in a hurry (remember Ebola) it will be over by then.

By November this will all be sorted out. We have a trip in August and I am not worried

So much close proximity in a boat like that, and if this is the beginning stages of what could be bad, it could go either way. If you haven’t booked if, go on a vacation where you can see more of a place

Coronavirus isn’t new. You can prevent contact with it the same as with any virus going around (hygiene, etc). And honestly, you’re probably fine, especially looking that far out in the year.

I’d keep it. November is a long ways away. Friends have been on cruises lately, and say they are constantly cleaning and disinfecting the ship. Anti bac gel is everywhere.

The coronavirus has actually been around for years. It’s listed on the back of the Lysol can. Yes, this may be a new strain but we get a new strain of the Flu every year. More people have died from the Flu. Use good hand hygiene and I think you’ll be fine. The media has blown this way out of proportion as usual.

To be honest I’d be more concerned on a cruise with norovirus than covid-19. by the time November comes around this will all be behind us anyway if you’re healthy and wash your hands you’ll be fine
by (660 points)
@mambo OMG if cornavirus is anything like norovirus I’m canceling my cruise  we cruise April (weren’t not canceling) but last year norovirus was the worst sick our family had ever been and I told my mom I’d i were on the ship that had 400+ with it I would have jumped ship no doubt. That virus was no joke

We have one booked and paid for on May 10th. I’m just worried about the cruise line canceling, not us.

We have a cruise booked in November too. That's 7 months from now. I AM GOING! Here's what we know about the Coronavirus: COVID-19 is a virus, the Corona Virus. Like other viruses it is spread by droplets. Like other viral infections it can be caught when airborne although it is more like to be spread through touching surfaces. Most viral infections are spread when a caregivers pick up droplets on surfaces and do not clean their hands. The caregiver touches a countertop, sink, or tissues and does not wash their hands. I don't know about you but when someone is coughing or sneezing I'm backing up. There are no antibiotics. So please if you feel sick stay home. If you don't feel sick please remember to wash your hands and use hand sanitizer.

If you want to save hundreds on a cruise and wait out this thing, try booking it through vacationstogo. com click on the 90 day ticker for last minute deals. We have taken several large family vacations and saved thousands of dollars.

I’m not worried about contracting Coronavirus but I would be concerned about being in one of those ships that gets quarantined. That would be a vacation killer for sure.

Who are you cruising with? We just got back from a cruise with royal Caribbean. They had safety measures set up. No one traveling from or through China within 15 days of the ship leaving was allowed on and staff was almost annoying about constantly reminding people to wash their hands and passing pig hand sanitizer. November is so far away I’m sure it’ll be fine. I wouldn’t cancel.

Do nothing right now. Odds are that the virus will burn out within that time period. If its still a problem in August, then consider your options.

Gatlinburg Tennessee is so much fun! So much to do - we stayed for 5 days last year and only used our car once to make a trip to Walmart!

I wouldn’t take a cruise at this time. I’d opt for an Airbnb where fewer hands will be touching anything! Can you drive somewhere? Less chance of community spread the fewer people you encounter. Just my thoughts
