What is a good budget friendly laundry detergent? I have 3 kids. 2 very dirty boys and a smelly girl. Husband work construction. My washer is HE. I have always bought ride but it's so expensive. Trying to find ways to cut coats.

Persil. 1 to 2 tsp per load. The massive bottle is about 15 dollars and lasts 6 months plus.

You only need about a tablespoon of detergent if you have a HE washer. My friend fixes them and days people use way too much.

It’s so hard to not use more because we’re conditioned to think more is better! I do like persil also but thought it was expensive in comparison. probably using too much ‍♀️‍♀️ Does anyone make their own?

You can not make your own detergent. You are making soap and it is horrible for your clothes and washer.

@simplism I've made my own and love. Clothes come out really clean and smell great. I wash my dog white comforter with it and it comes out looking new. Same with my kiddos clothes. Especially my dirt loving ones. I spend about $20 every 3 months. I was wasting $60 a month on liquid arm and hammer brand, softener, downy beads & dryer sheets.

We only use persil, it gets everything out of everything. My husband is a heavy machinery mechanic and his clothes are always covered in stuff.

Does it get diesel and hydraulic fluid smells out? I'm at the point where I want separate W/D for his stuff so I can use industrial cleaners on it!

@thirzi it does! I do use a tad extra in his work clothes loads but it gets it all out. I run it on a heavy duty cycle and it all comes out

We only have 1 cycle and it's cold water, currently use two tide pods, scent beads and oxiclean

@thirzi oh yeah tide pods dont touch the stuff that comes home on my husbands clothes. It took a while to figure out what worked.

I'm going to have to try this!

Pods or liquid?

@thirzi liquid, we don’t use pods

Ok, that's what I picked up, I normally use the tide pods

I use arm and hammer (you can get on sale pretty cheep) with a drop of dōTerra ongaurd oil. My husband does machining and his clothes are covered and smell like oil so I understand.

We use the Tide “Simply Clean” line, which is usually half the cost of regular Tide. Smells good and works just as well. They have an odor tough option. Two teen boys in sports in my house.

Not sure but it works just as well! I’ve been using it for a couple of years now. It’s usually on the bottom shelf in the laundry detergent aisle.

I follow Fat Kid Deals on Twitter for this reason. Well multiple things but I always scoop up a good deal. I bought 4 large Dawn dish soap for the same price last week!

I can’t wait until my container of All is empty. I use to be a member of Melaleuca and their laundry soap was awesome! Got all the dirt and stains out. I have heard great reviews on Peril.

We have to use hypo allergenic for everything because of my daughter, but I've found, if you add vinegar to every load, any detergent cleans extremely well. Dirt is a way of life in this house too and I've never had an issue getting their clothes clean.

Purex with a 1/2 cup of white vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser thingy.
