Hi! I live in Pembroke Pines, a city nestled between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. I get the best of both big city worlds and beaches 30 minutes away to the East (realistically with traffic its about 45-60mins), but PP maintains its calmness being further inland out west (no evacuation needed during hurricanes), but definitely is fast growing. It's conveniently between 2 major highways that take you anywhere (I-95, I-75, crossed by I-595 and US1). Orlando is 3. 5hrs, Naples is 1. 5hrs, Key West is 4hrs, West Palm/Boca is about 1. 5hrs. I've lived in Pines since 1996 (at 14yrs old), when there was only 1 "Main Street", 1 mall and 1 movie theatre. nothing else other than Everglades west of I-75. The city has grown, but still feels small.
