Good morning.  Can I ask how much is your monthly electric bill (family of 4) in south Florida.Good morning. Can I ask how much is your monthly electric bill (family of 4) in south Florida. Just bought a house and was curious if my electric bill was high or about average. Has your bill gone up significantly with this quarantine? Thank you.

100-150 ish here in Mt. Hasn't changed with the quarantine. Electric is cheaper for me in the winter because we have gas heat. Summer electric goes way up due to AC.

Our house is all electric & hubby keeps it colder than the average house. On levelized billing it runs about $275 per month in Southeast Louisiana.

Ours runs anywhere from $100-$140 a month. We do levelized billing. Our house is about 2200 SF, older, not the best insulated. We live in Louisiana; so we are constantly running the AC!

I’m in central FL and my electric & water (they’re combined) is $250-275 during the summer, with pool pump running 8hrs a day. It’s $175-200 during the winter. We are home a lot normally because we homeschool.

$73 a month (2 people, 4 dogs, in Kansas and I do not do heat so we keep the air pretty low). We do the equal/level pay thing with our electric company so it never really varies. Our heat is gas but everything else is electric. Our house is one story about 1450sq ft- getting extra insulation in our attic and a new hvac system a few years ago has made a decent difference.

West Palm Beach here ‍♀️ ours is about 100-120 a month for our 1700 sq ft townhouse. That’s with me being a STAHM and someone always being home. Although it is new construction so I think the new insulation and new ac have a big part in that. Our old house was half the size, ac always set hotter and ran about 150-200 a month.

I'm in SWFL (Miami/Ft. Laud). My parents house (whom I live with, plus 2 sisters and a baby) oscillates between $135-$185. It's a 2-story house with 2 central AC units. Our AC is not on autorun. Most of the time its kept off because we like windows open due to nice breezes coming thru to air out the house (plus we are from Caribbean, used to heat). We only keep AC on constantly when we have guests staying over, and only then we see it go up to $215ish.

Oh boy I really need to find a way to lower my light bill. I’m over 300 for this month. It is an older home so maybe that’s what’s going on. Tips of lowering light bill.
by (840 points)
@antefix7784 Not knowing you’re circumstances, I’d check your AC unit. My home is all electric. My first month the bill was almost $500 when I used to pay less than $200. Come to find out, the heat pump compressor went out. Fast forward a year and my bill started to steadily go up again. My home is about 26 years old. Had an HVAC guy come out again and determined that not only did one of the power strips go bad but we had a loose wiring connection in the unit itself. This caused the ac/heat to run unnecessarily which resulted in a higher bill. I should mention, I work from home and live in SW MO, so lights and computers are always on. This may not be the cause of your bill increasing, but it’s a start ‍♀️. Good luck. I hope you’re able to determine the issue.
by (1.6k points)
@bertrand10 I think you are so right. I didn’t realize our electric bill breaks down our bill and a lot went to the ac.
by (840 points)
@antefix7784 That’s great they break it down for you! Mine does not, it just shows me the total usage, so it’s a guessing game. Lol Hopefully it’s a minor issue that can easily be remedied.
by (3.5k points)
@antefix7784 Check with your power company (FPL or whoever the regional utilities is). They will usually do a free home audit to determine where you might need to make improvements to save. Also, some have programs where they will give you a grant towards energy efficient ac units.

South Florida here too. FPL has an option to budget bill. They average out the past 12 months so your bill stays close to the same every month. Mine is ALWAYS around $300. 4/3 1800 sq ft with 5 people. My water and electric usage have gone way up since we are all mostly working remotely now.

I love this post. It's always interesting to see what other's pay in other places. We live in the Pacific Northwest and pay more in the winter, where it's dark 15 hours a day and cold. We also do not need air conditioning in the Spring or Summer. :) Our house is currently heated by pellet stove. We've used oil, propane, wood, and electricity in the pass. We now use electric for lights and washing/drying clothes and still pay over $100 a month during the Winter. It will drop to about $75 when we have 15 hours of light in the middle of Summer. :)

Our house is a two story new construction 2400 sq ft house in Parrish, FL. Which is just south of Tampa, north of Sarasota. We pay about $100/month, but we paid a few hundred to tint some of the windows, specifically the ones that the sun beams in when it rises and sets. Without the tint, our bill was well over $150+/month.

We don't do level billing. It's become a challenge to see how low I can get it. We haven't turned the air on yet and turned the heat off in mud March. Our last 2 bills have been around $108. Our bill also includes water and trash.

Northern California, I am now paying 80 to 90 in the winter and I don’t use my electric heater, I use a kerosene Toyotomi Heater and I have propane for the water heater and cooking. The summers are now 290 to 360 a month and I have my thermostat at 78. I say now because before all the fires here in Shasta County, I was paying 40 to 60 in the winter and 150 to 250 in the summer with a pool and air. We are now paying for PG&E’s failure to keep their equipment maintained. I have no idea what it will cost this year as I’m sure they will be raising my rates again. I need to get solar panels and a back up generator as we will now be having our power turned off during high fire danger which is when the wind blows too hard!

I send $130 every month of the year. It covers higher bills in the winter and in the lower months, it simply goes into the account as credit. I have done this for decades. I think you can ask the company what the average bill has been for that address, then you can pay that amount.
