So this might sound weird but when I have money left over from my paycheck that I know should go on a credit card I always hesitate to use it so it ends up sitting there until I spend it on something I don't need. Who does this?

I just constantly remove from my account and put towards debt right away. If there is anything extra from my paycheck, it goes toward debt. If we fill up a vehicle and I know we won't need the remaining gas money, it all goes toward debt right away. Put trust in yourself and your budget

@astrict789 same here, I have always been a spender, I’ve gotten a lot better but it’s a hard habit to break. I totally understand!

Right now I have a small surplus of "what the heck should I do with it" money (I have a decent EF, but in these uncertain times I'm not 100% sure what I feel most comfortable doing and the only debt I have is my car and small student loans). So I moved that money to it's own sinking fund so it wasn't just sitting in my account. Once things calm down I will allocate the money.

Me! I’ve been hanging on to it “just in case” during the virus, but then I just spend it. That stops this week!

Yes! That is exactly what happens.

@detrude I just had that talk with myself this morning! No more needless spending. I’m going to put mine towards my car loan!

I am guilty of this too but only on small amounts - like $40. I think what’s $40 going to do!?! The big amounts, like income tax, I happily put it on my debt because it makes a bigger difference! I need to remember, slow (small) and steady wins the race!

I was just thinking this morning about budget vs actual specifically when I'm under. I was thinking of starting a sinking fund (of sorts) and keeping an eye to have a minimum of 1 month's expense in that fund. ie water estimate to be $65 but is $62. 25 so I'll put $2. 75 to the water sinking fund until it accumulates to a full month's payment

I did until the last year or so. I have done decent at maintaining self discipline and putting half on cc and half in savings.
