My Prime membership gets renewed in June. Due to the Pandemic, I've had to wait about a week plus for any items I order, and the only benefit to prime for me was the 2 day shipping, so I'm going to cancel. I don't use the tv or photo services. Before I cancel, is there any reason to keep it?

The pandemic isn’t going to last forever. shipping on everything is delayed. I personally go to amazon for anything because of free shipping. If I have to pay for shipping I typically don’t order.
by (14.1k points)
@teazel that’s exactly why I include the cost of shipping on my website. I do the same thing when I shop.
by (930 points)
@jotunheim It just doesn’t make sense to pay $5-7 for a $20 item. Blows my mind
by (3.8k points)
@teazel yup!
by (14.1k points)
@teazel right! But $25 with free shipping feels better. Total head game, but I’m with you. Also some Shipping fees are crazy.
by (930 points)
@jotunheim I don’t always have a $25 order so paying for the membership makes more sense to me. My husband works out of town and I have a 6 month old. Having something that’s $10 or $200 brought to my door just works best for us.
by (14.1k points)
@teazel I agree. I’m keeping prime. I meant for my web sales. I include shipping in the cost of the cotton masks I make. It makes a difference in my sales.
by (930 points)
@jotunheim Oops sorry!  yes for sure! If I ever open a boutique I won’t even question including shipping.

We keep it because most of our shopping requires the use of toll roads. So we can save money on gas and tolls by keeping Prime. We do use the tv services as well as the free audio books. I am a college student so I pay $49/year
by (8.8k points)
The other thing you might consider is Target offers free shipping +5% off if you get their debit or credit card. And usually free shipping on $25+ purchases on all orders

We don’t have it! No regrets. If I order something I just make sure my order is over $25 for free shipping.
by (8.8k points)
@unnecessary4 I thought they bumped up the minimum to $35 for free shipping
by (2.3k points)
@thales I just ordered a few things last night and it said $25 for me.
by (8.8k points)
@unnecessary4 cool maybe they went back down due to all this. Prime may not be worth it.

Free shipping ?
by (1.7k points)
You can get free shipping on orders over $25 without using prime
by (1.9k points)
@ptyalism I had forgotten it was free shipping.

Even the USPS is delayed right now. They’re still Honoring prime - (free shipping) if you cancel, you’ll Have to pay shipping from Elsewhere and no time promise.

I haven’t had any issues or long delays with my orders. I keep so I don’t have to go out and prices are cheaper on most items!

Cancel it, it's not worth it. Save the money for other bills and make sure you order the minimum for free shipping when you need to order :)

I guess it depends on how much you order. if you order a lot then maybe the free shipping is worth it. But if you only order every other month or so, then maybe cancel it.

I canceled mine last year and haven't missed it. If you order over $25, you get free shipping anyway. ‍♀️ I just wait until I have $25 worth. Also, Walmart and Target and a lot of other places now have free shipping to their stores. That is an option for a ton of itema!

No. Cancel

We buy it for the TV service and consider the free shipping a bonus. However, it’s our only streaming service. If we get Netflix, I’d consider cancelling as we don’t buy that much from Amazon.

I've noticed that things that are labeled prime shipping have a higher price anyway. Often the same thing is offered without prime at a lower price. I have been a faithful prime member for years and use it way too often but now I am rethinking it. Seems like we are being scammed almost.

I keep it for the free shipping but there’s no reason not to just cancel and start again once everything is back to normal if you don’t think it’ll benefit you right now.

I haven’t had it in over a year, there is nothing I need in 2 days that I couldn’t run out to a store and get and you get free shipping if you spend $25. so I just wait until I have $25 in my cart.
by (4.8k points)
@chiro24 sometimes my Amazon order is here before I can get my toddler shoved in the car

I mean we order basically everything off of there even when all this stay home isn’t going on. But I utilize everything that comes with it (storage, tv, movies, books) and I don’t always order $25 of stuff to get free shipping. Maybe because we are near a couple warehouses but most of my stuff has averaged like 3 days so still good. Cancel if it’s not worth it to you, it’s not like you can’t ever sign up again.

Same for us. We only use it for the shipping and my wait times have been almost 2 weeks. I've been wondering if I can get a refund for these months.

Cancel it. Amazon is super convenient, but as a company they are terrible. If you’re supporting a large corporation, why not choose Walmart or target. They also offer free shipping on most items and don’t treat their workers and delivery companies like .

I use amazon for everything and honestly haven’t had to wait much longer then normal. Everything is pushed back at the moment, but again i use amazon for most of my shopping (except groceries). So it’s worth it to me, especially around the holidays

I use it for videos and music and photo storage- in addition to buying so much of my kids needed stuff- so for me it’s worth it but if I didn’t have small kids and use the other services probably not

No. My mom just got so pissed bc everything says prime . And it's a months time now to get delivered . She's fine but it shouldn't say prime . So she canceled and she still orders from there and she said most of the time it's free shipping anyways

Nope. most companies do 2 day delivery now standard to keep up With them. I know Walmart basically has created their own version of amazon on their site too.

I have ordered stuff from Amazon and depending on what it is it was delayed past the 2 days but most of the stuff hasn't been. I know if you cancel you can always sign up again later on

As someone who orders everything off of amazon, my membership fee pays for itself in no time, but if you don’t order that much then it could be worth cnavelling

I use the prime tv

Honestly no. Especially if you don’t use the tv service. I’ve started to purchase directly from the store or seller, that would typically be on amazon. Most have their own 2 day shipping. It allows the company to keep 100% profits instead of paying 30% to amazon. There is nothing I ABSOLUTELY need in two days and if I do, I can get it locally.

They should really lower the price if they can’t full fill the 2 day shipping.

How about the free books?
by (1.9k points)
@ilium I honestly don't even know how to access that. Last time I did, I ended up paying for a whole year of audio books I clearly never used and they only gave me 3 months of a refund.
by (1.6k points)
@eastbourne they give you free books on my kindle though. Not sure on other devices
by (390 points)
I have the monthly free book I pick downloaded to my phone. Love it!

I’ve gotten some things the next day that weren’t food. I’ve also waited for some as well. I’ve noticed amazon items are priced more now too.

I use prime video and I also love the Whole Foods discounts and free grocery delivery through Whole Foods. It really comes in handy in a pinch and keeps me from spending more money with impulse buys by running to the store.
by (3.6k points)
@vespertilionine Price wait what?
by (8k points)
@jaddo amazon bought Whole Foods so if you’re a prime member you get special sales at the store and an additional 10% off of regular sale items. you also have access to prime now which is the Whole Foods delivery service. Free 2 hour grocery delivery.
by (8k points)
@jaddo and it’s better than other grocery delivery sites because the prices are the same as in store instead of being marked up like crazy
by (3.6k points)
@vespertilionine Price why did I not know this? My daughter works for Whole Foods and I’ve been harassing her for a discount and I could have been getting my own all this time! So you don’t have to pay extra for the delivery service?
by (8k points)
@jaddo no it’s included with your prime membership. But I always tip the drivers.

I use prime for a ton but with the extended shipping times I’ve been using target pickup. It’s free and ready within a couple hours. I have 2 small children so prime is just more convenient to not have to even put them in the car.

Such a personal decision. It is worth it to me just for the video streaming, as we dont have cable. I also do not have time to run out for things, so the convenience of two day shipping saves me trips to the store.

I use Amazon a whole lot. They may not be guaranteeing 2 day shipping- no one is, they are still providing free shipping which is so costly. So I’m saving.

So I utilize my membership for the shipping as well as streaming television shows and movies AND music! What do you all use other than prime for music?

Nope. There's so many services that can fill the void and Amazon has treated their workers horribly during this pandemic.

No reason to keep. Shipping is the only reason I have mine. I cancel and they will keep offering me free trial periods, and lower cost once it’s up to keep it.

I save at least the cost of the membership on free shipping, even if at the moment it's coming a little later, I'm still not paying delivery.

I’ve been asking myself the same question. Especially after I ordered a sink from them the other day for $71, realized I used the wrong card, cancelled it, and went back to repurchase it and the were trying to charge me $146 all within a 3 minute time frame. Contacted customer service and they were unwilling to budge. I had some other shay stuff happen earlier that week and I’m thinking it might be time to cut ties. I use the photo storage though

There hasn't been 2 day shipping in so long that I'm ok without it anyway. It seems that everything I order is over the minimum for free shipping without prime. I also don't watch their TV, I'm fine with Netflix.

I get free shipping with Prime. Also if I choice to not do the 2 day shipping they give me usually $1. 50 back that can be used for digital content (I use it to rent a movie or two a month). The free shipping alone saves me more than the cost of the membership. The movies are just a bonus. Side note I still get 2 day shipping if I choice to use it.

Target does free 2 day shipping also even before this pandemic. I stopped paying for amazon over a year ago and if I ever needed something fast, I ordered from target and still do. Plus if you get the target red card (we have the debit one) you get 5% off which includes Netflix and Hulu gift cards so we get the gift cards to pay for our subscriptions.
