23 years old and really wanting to take budgeting seriously! I was wondering if there was anyone in this group similar in age/situation? Would love to connect and share tips/etc! I LOVE this group but sometimes I find It hard to connect or understand some aspects to budgeting with me being so young and unestablished compared to most people in this group who have mortgages, families, farther ahead in their careers, etc but I would love to pick up good habits early!

23 is when I decided to actually figure out my finances. I am now 28, married, 2 kids and debt free but putting things in place before getting married helped so much. So even though we may not be the same age/situation there are people that understand where you are at and can give great advice. Don’t be afraid to ask all your questions
by (3.4k points)
@veolaver was your partner debt free as well before you got married?
by (3.8k points)
@indices574 Not totally. He had a little debt and no savings and I had a little savings and no debt  So we just paid it off in the first few months of marriage. When babies came into the mix and hospital bills started showing up and I dropped down to part time things got tricky for a hot minute, but having a budget & a plan helped me not freak out and us pay off the bills

@veolaver teamwork!

Do you use the budget workbook or do you have your own method?
by (3.8k points)
I use the workbook. But I guess probably like a lot of people do my own tweaks

I’m 24 and got into budgeting when I was 22! I was always interested in my own personal finances, but I got serious about it after I graduated college. I’m single, have no children, and have have no big budget goals at this point. mostly just trying to save for my future! I don’t relate a lot of what people post in here, but I learn a lot from others posts.

I’m 23 and started budgeting since November. Graduated college in 2018 with student loans and just been so stressed out with my money situation al the time. Finding TBM was the best thing I did because budgeting just makes me less stressed. I always like seeing people my age group start budgeting now.
by (780 points)
It’s awesome! Do you use the workbook or your own method for budgeting!
by (700 points)
@deangelo before I did my own thing, but it was all over the place in a notebook. Now I started the workbook this month and everything is so clean and I can see exactly where every dollar is going too. And the workbook just makes it super fun for to budget, so for me I’m always like can’t wait for payday, but not because of money just to budget  what about you? Are you doing the workbook?
by (780 points)
@bourdon i have been trying to figure out if i should bite the bullet and get the digital download for the workbook because it seems so much easier! Right now i do everything by hand and girl it’s killing me haha
by (700 points)
@deangelo I get it, there’s a lot to fill out in the workbook lol, but for me personally I like having physical copy. I’m always looking at a screen 24/7 for my job and personal life. so I get tired of screens. But if you think you would be more productive digitally then handwritten it, then I say do the digital.

I’m 23! I was budgeting loosely while in college (didn’t accumulate any debt, but I definitely could have saved more), and I’m doing it a lot more seriously now. I am recently married, but no kids and definitely not far ahead in a career

I'm 23 with a mortgage, family, and I'm a trainer in my career. A few years ago I had none of that. I do wish I had budgeted my money better and had a set amount to put into savings every month. I didn't budget at all before getting married. It I had it in my account I spent it.

I’m a few years older and have a child and I’m still floundering my way through life  I struggle everyday as our debt grows due to my fiancé still in school. I have to take it one day at a time. I slip up constantly and just realign myself when I can. Take it with grace. Life is hard, and budgeting can be super challenging.

Don’t feel bad at ALL. We all have to start somewhere. It can definitely be intimidating when I’m reading some peoples situations but it just inspires me to get to that point! We got this

I am 24 - active duty military. Husband is a stay at home dad but streams online weekly to make an extra “income”. I just got promoted on Friday so excited to see my new paycheck to be able to pay off my debt. Started seriously budgeting in Jan 2020 - paid off one credit card and one loan. About to pay off my car which will leave me with one credit card (provided by the base so no interest) and a 2nd loan. I have a almost 3 year old son and he is my motivation. And I’ve also been able to save for an emergency fund which I’ve never done before! I would just say that at the beginning it seems overwhelming but now love seeing my numbers change and dividing and being in control of my money, being able to take care of my family financially.

I’m 24 & raising two kids solo ! I started in February of this year with 25k in debt & now we are at 8. 6k . Honestly my best advice would be god 1st & prayer ! With this crisis and temporarily laid off from both my jobs , I’m still able to put money away toward my debt ! I stay away from ALL NEGATIVITY. My everyday is about being financially free. When i think about making unnecessary purchases , I always tell myself it will prolong my goal. Just stick with it NO MATTER WHAT. Persistence & discipline ☺️

I remember I started seriously budgeting when I was 21 years old. I was a single mom but I paid off my debt, bought my car cash and had built an emergency fund ☺️ i just had a weekly automatic amount being taken out of my check and into the savings. I set aside money for bills and spending. I made the mistake of getting a credit card and spiraling back into debt. My biggest mistake was not paying my debt off in full every month. I'm now 26, married with 2 children. We paid off my debt but now we're working on my husband's. I always wonder how my life would have been if I had stayed in the same financial path. Please learn from me. If has taken me years to get to this point. Let me know if you have any questions

I was going to say I’m 23 too. but I realized that I’m 26 lol. Budgeting is amazing! I started because I went back for my masters this year and I wanted to owe the bare minimum in student loans. It’s really changed my life & showed me what is a “need” vs a “want”.

Im a little older being 31 but I just got into budgeting within the past 6 months. While I was in undergrad and grad school I never worried about the student loan debt I was collecting or the cc I was using while in grad school. Now that my boyfriend and I are working on getting an apartment together and then saving for a house within the next 2 years is I was able to get him on board with me to budget!

I’m 22 years old, 23 next week  just graduated college with my BA in Business Management student loan DEBT FREE! I always worked two jobs to pay college as I went & it’s definitely worth it! ‍I use TBM budgeting worksheets as well as Every Dollar App  to keep track of my expense and use a zero base budget! All I talk is finance and budgeting to my boyfriend he thinks I’m annoying now but I won’t quit bugging him until he’s on my side. Only debt I have is 8K of student loans which I plan to pay off by this year so I can start funding my 3-6 Emergency Fund and start saving for a house down payment ! This group has been super helpful! So happy to hear from different age groups!
