Id like some advice.  Last year & this year I have owed on state tax.Id like some advice. Last year & this year I have owed on state tax. I get a very small federal return but I owe on state. My husbands job is 100% commission based and I work a regular job that has no tips/bonuses. He gets paid 2x monthly & I get paid weekly. We both have $20 (from every check) going towards state & $20 to federal to keep us from owing at the end of the year. But even with the extra $20 from both of us we still owe on state. It just doesn't seem right to me. Last year we owed only $50 so not too bad but this year we owed $300! We also have 2 kids & claim 0 on our w4s. What can I do to keep this from happening next year?

The IRS has an online W-4 calculator, maybe your state has one also to help you plan? Good luck.
