Gas: I don’t think cash will work for us when it comes to gas, I have a 4 year old and I wouldn’t want to drag her out of the car just to run in to pay for gas. What have you guys used? Gas card, extra checking account? Thanks

We keep our gas in our checking as well. Just works better for all of us!

I use my debit card so I can pay at the pump. I don't do cash for gas.

We know roughly how much we use so I just keep track and leave it in the account

We leave our gas in our account and just track it

We budget it in and leave it in the account. My husband is the only one who needs to pay for gas (mine is covered by work) and his is so predictable lol I just go with a higher gas price so we have a buffer.

We keep ours in the account and I budget so much a paycheck and deduct it using plain notecards.

Here in NJ I’m wondering why this would matter with cash and needing to get out. and I remembered we have gas attendants that do all that for us. Now it makes sense lol

@unmarked Jersey here! I moved to upstate ny for a few months after I first started driving and I was WHAT? Haha
by (1.2k points)
That is the one thing I miss about NJ. We moved to GA last summer and I hate pumping my own gas
by (1.2k points)
I wasn't even sure I knew what I was doing at first lmao
by (4.5k points)
@unmarked I would LOVE it if I didn’t have to pump my own gas. especially in the Michigan winters I’d even pay more for someone to pump it, but those stations are no longer available here.  such a bummer.

I have a second checking account that was free to open since I had an existing savings account (Alliant Credit Union) and I usually put gas money on that card since I also have a little kiddo

We have a checking account just for gas. I have my direct deposit split between my two accounts just to waive the monthly fee. One account is for Bill's and the other is for gas

I use out gas stations mobile app to pay to earn points so it stays in my account but I only spend a certain amount.

I use a gift card. I load it every week so I can use it at the pump.

Gas card for sure. I’ve never ever paid at the pump unless it was with a gas card. My husband doesn’t trust the pumps so if we use our debit card he still goes inside to pay.

I do cash and use my bill account card. I am always weery of paying at the pump. But with having a baby soon, I think I will be doing that more often.

I just use my debit card, but I have an app called GetUpside, it's kinda like fetch but for gas. It only works at some gas stations here but you get money back

I live in a state where we dont pump our own gas (but I know how! ) Lol) but costco doesn't accept cash, so I asked my credit union if they did sub-checking accounts and they do! So I just opened a sub-account checking so I could get debit cards for my husband and I just for fuel.

I use a credit card with no annual fee and 1. 5% cash back and pay it every month. I'm in agreement, it's a pain to have to go in the store.

I pump when I'm kid free weather it's almost empty or at half. Those lil moments are priceless.

So far i have just left it in our account but everytime we get gas 75 to 100 is taken out of the account just to get $20 worth of gas. so im considering getting a gas card and reloading it.

I use my credit card to get the points (and so I dont have to take my kids in) and I just take my $$ from my gas envelope and move it to my credit card envelope when I fill up

GasBuddy has a debit (yes, DEBIT! ) that will link to your checking account and gives you 5 cents off per gallon at most stations. I love it! And they usually have a special intro promotion too. However, I find that it doesn’t work at Walmart and other “grocery” type stations, so I just use my regular debit at those places.

I think for me the point of cash envelopes is to be very intentional about what I’m spending. Gas isn’t a category where we could typically overspend. So we just use debit for gas.

I get Walmart gas and use their gift card. You also get an extra small discount for using the gift card at the pump.

Cash envelopes *tend* to be for categories you often overspend in. If your paying at the pump each time, and not going inside for snacks, leave it in the checking account.

I use Costco cash card. I don’t use my debit card because there have been a lot of skimmers put on the pumps around where I live.

The only thing I use cash for right now is my and my husbands spending money. However I write out how much we have for gas and groceries and write it down everytime and so far we have done great doing that. I have twins and I don’t wanna drag them out everytime I wanna pay at the gas station.

I just keep it in our checking account. I budget $150 between the two of us every two weeks for fuel. I use the app Simple Budget Envelopes on my phone, it’s just virtual envelopes that I can add money to and subtract money to. That’s how I keep track of our fuel budget. I have my husband bring me receipts anytime he gets fuel so I can subtract from our budget, same with me. I have 4 kids so I’m not taking everyone inside to pay for gas!

We don't budget gas, as in it's A necessity. If I use more one week than another, so be it. I use my cash back card that gets paid off every month or my debit card.

I use my CC (points) and still get cash, put it into my gas envelope and then put it into my bank envelope when I pump. It’s a visual representation for me

I just recently opened up another checking so that I could just deposit money to get gas with a debit card. I don’t like to use cash to get gas.

I use my Exxon or BP app and just pay from that and leave the money in my bank ‍♀️ if not every week when I head out I buy a gift card for xx amount so I can’t use the money anywhere else

Debit card. I budget it and use an empty envelope to track it so I know what has been spent and what it left over

I use gas buddy to get discounts, it pulls from your checking account. Only down fall is you can only use $75 a day so if it costs you more than $75 to fill your tank it’ll stop before you’re full.

Where I live, I can use debit or credit. At an Esso and get president Choice points, which is a grocery store. I shop at frequently. It is Superstore. So that is my method.
