For those who still get their nails done, how do you budget for that or do you do them at home? What do you use for at home besides regular polish? I’m a stay at home mom and my nails are the one thing that keeps me feeling like myself. But I’m not oppose to doing them at home but not sure what to buy or what systems work best as far as gel or dip! Thanks in advance

I budget for my nails to get done out of my “personal” fund. We each get a small amount of money each paycheck to do with it whatever we want. I get my nails done. I have been wanting to go to Color Street (my best friend sells it so it’s an easy option for me) but. I’m an avid nail biter and I’m so worried about going back to that habit if I didn’t have gel on my nails!

@porosity @dichlorodiphenyltri girl I was an awful nail biter! I never got my nails done but have been doing CS and I’ve stopped biting!

@leucite Really?!?!? Ahhhh this is so nerve wracking lol I want to try it so bad but I’m so nervous! I’ve bought 4 sets of CS from my friend though in hopes of trying it, so they’re waiting for me!

@porosity @dichlorodiphenyltri do it! I feel like they are too pretty to bite!

My husband and I get "fun money" each month and it comes out of that.

I use to add it as an actual bill. & my SO was support of that, but once my mindset changed I couldn’t justify the extra 70-80 a month for them. & just recently started doing the dipped nails. There’s a learning curve but I like them!

I budget for it. I get my nails down once a month. It’s in our “grooming” budget. Some call this envelope beauty. My is hands haircuts come out of it, my nails, hair products and any salon visits(rare, infrequent).

I switched to doing my own in December. I got a gel kit, that I had asked for, as a Christmas gift. It’s from Amazon, if you search Beetles Gel Nail Kit, you’ll find it. I like it because it’s easy to use and I can do my nails after my kids go to bed vs. having to find a time during the day to get to the salon.

I budget for it but I only get them done once a month! I just prefer to get them done than do them myself, I feel like I will never do as good as a job!

I use Color Street, Biotin and OPI Nail Envy. It saves so much money not to mention the time it saves too.

I have a nails envelope that I use. Having my nails done is super important to me and I count it as my me time. I tried to do at home and i can’t paint my nails to begin with so that was a big fail!

I bought this one. It is gel. Lasts 3-4 weeks on me! Easy to use and everyone asks me where I get my nails done! Has saved me lots of money!

I was a huge gel polish fan for years but it got annoying when my nails would chip and peel I now use dip powder they usually last about 2 weeks before the grow out starts to annoy me. Your nails will feel and look like you have acrylics on no one will even know you did them at home

I bought the $20 Serendipity dip powder kit from Walmart. Going to a salon for nails has NEVER been in my budget, but after learning about dip kits here, I get to pamper myself! Each manicure lasts 2+ weeks. I would say there's at least 20 manicures in one kit

I have this pro dip kit from Sally’s and it works great! My nails don’t chip or scuff or anything! I also found $1 dip powders on wish and I ordered like 12. I was a little worried about how good the quality would be since they were so cheap, but they’re actually great!

I spend $25 every 2 weeks. I get gel powder overlay on my natural very thin weak nails, and gel polish on top of that I tried doing them myself and they all broke. So yes it’s a splurge but I don’t go out or on vacation. It’s the 1 thing for ME

Color Street has been my go to for the past two years. Dry nail polish strips, doesn’t ruin your nails and comes off with nail polish remover. I haven’t gone to the salon in two years since this is more affordable.

I recently started doing mine at home with regular OPI polish and a gel top coat over it for shine and long wear. I like switching up my nail color every other week or so, so this works best for me. I’ve got maybe a dozen colors that I rotate through. I’m not buying new colors often, but if there is one that I really want right away, I pull the funds from my regular Beauty envelope.

I budget 80 a month for my beauty. I do dip and they last me forever so I get my nails done about once every 6 weeks. And do my toes every other time I go.

I go every 4 weeks and get my nails done. It’s my me time and one thing I won’t give up. I ask for gift certificates for every holiday/birthday for either the hair or nail salon. My nail girl doubles as a therapist so any dollar is worth it. She’s amazing. I can’t tell you how many compliments I got on this set.

I do them at home. I don't have time to go anywhere. I have spent less than $200 since July of last year on supplies and I have enough to last the year

I tried gel, acrylic, dip and stickers. I’m not happy with any if I do it myself. The only thing I’m keeping is the gel to do my toes but I’m still getting manicures. A friend recently opened a nail salon by my work and it’s only $15 for a fill + tip so I don’t feel too guilty. I do my own toes, but when I need a pick me up I get a pedicure too.

It’s part of my budget. I don’t buy an excessive amount of clothes/shoes/makeup/purses like nothing. However pedis, brows and my lash lifts are what make me feel normal and like I don’t just live to work/take care of the house and grocery shop lol. I do a pedi once a month, brows/lashes are every 8 weeks. I just take a little each pay period and whatever I randomly sell on posh/marketplace goes into my envelope (so instead of beauty/clothing/whatever else I may want/need envelopes I just do one for myself). Gotta take care of yourself as well! 1. Can ask for gift certificates for birthday/ holiday and 2. Can always find a school and get it cheaper if needed.

I dip mine! I used to do gel, but I like the strength of dip! I use revel powders! I love them! I used to go to the salon every 2 weeks for years. When I quit my job when I was pregnant with my first I stopped going. It was really hard, but now I don’t mind. When I want to do my nails I tell my husband to Play with the kids and not bug me! So I get some time to myself. ❤️

$15 a week (Saturday’s) goes into my nail envelope. I had to wait a few months before I started then up again to build up some funds. I’m basically one month ahead at this point.

I do dip at home. I bought everything Miko suggests on amazon plus some Extra colors that I like. I spent $150 initially and $13 every once in a while for a new color
by (2.7k points)
@dichlorodiphenyltri I watched her YouTube video on it and I did exactly what she said. It works great! I also bought the supplies on her website that she suggests for dip (basically Kiara sky dip starter kit, some tools etc).

I just dipped mine at home this week. Used the $20 SerinDipity kit from Wal Mart. I LOVE IT! My nails are super thin and weak. This makes them feel super thick and strong.

I do my own and use dip. This is like my 8th time doing my own dip nails and there’s a lot to learn but I won’t go to a salon to get my nails done again. I’d recommend joining nail FB groups like Revel Nail Community or Nail Art Anonymous where you can learn tips and about different brands. It does save you money in the long run but you might get addicted to buying ALL the colors!

I go once a month and sit in a chair for an hour and watch HGTV. It’s the one hour out of the month that I can count on having to myself. I put $50 into a beauty envelope for myself ($25 each paycheck).
