I’ve never paid rent late and I got a $40 late fee. Do you guys think if I call tomorrow morning and explain the situation they would put a $40 credit on my account? How would you go about this?

It doesn't hurt to ask.

If you made the payment through your bank those are typically guaranteed delivery date and they will take care of any late fees. Just contact your bank.

It doesn’t hurt to ask. I was 7 days late due to travel and they slapped me with an 80$ fee and an eviction notice if I didn’t pay within 5 days. They did not budge even when I explained I just returned to town and they require a money order delivered for rent payment. Totally not convenient.

They don’t have to, but I would definitely ask. All they can say is yes or no.

How did you pay? I once dropped a check in the drop box along with many others. Wasnt until days later when we got the late notice that i realized it wasnt cashed yet. Went to the office and turns out someone had stolen several tenants checks and the office was just trying to verify who was late and who wasnt. They waved the late fee and my bank helped keep with an overdraft account and a new checking account in the meantime.

I always call to see if any fees can be refunded. Worse thing that can happen is they say no. Most of the time I’ve had fees waived. Especially if it hasn’t happened before.

Always worth a call. The worst they can say is no. Lesson learned and move on ♥️

Yep, definitely call & ask. My bank will reverse it once a year, even when it’s my error.
