Question

I posted about a month ago about how my rent was going up to $1400 per month here in Western Washington. So many of you suggested that I look for a new place. Sooooo. I applied for a promotion. the position is in Ohio. I’m a single mom and its kind of scary but within my company, the only way to move up is to move usually out of state. My company would pay me to relocate. My interview is on Thursday and I think I have a good chance. I’d be working under a previous boss of mine who hired me here in Washington. I work in the grain/export shipping business which is dominated by men. But, this previous boss of mine really believed in me then so why not now? Right? I’m so nervous and excited  My rent goes up and I take a promotion and move across country alone with my daughter. I can do it right?

Yes, you can. Look into your HR benefits and see if they have Employee Assistant Program (EAP) including additional relocation support and tips if you move. It sounds to me like you do have a decent shot. Half the challenge is knowing someone and them trusting you to get job done. Good luck!

You can do it! I live in Ohio and it’s a great place to live! Very affordable, people are friendly and helpful, you can get to most retail stores, restaurants or attractions within an hour or two of driving, and there are lots of great destinations for short trips within 6 hours! I work in education and know a lot about schools in Ohio if you need any info after you nail this interview!

You’ve totally got this! I travel to Ohio for work a few times per year. It’s a great state. Nothing beats the people in the Midwest-so friendly and welcoming. Lots of cool places to visit in Ohio!

I did it about 7 years ago. I packed my car with whatever would fit, 4 year old in the back and hit the road with no family in the area. I started over from scratch. There were some small bumps in the road but things worked out. I got a higher paying job that i wouldn't have been able to get if I stayed(small town) and graduated college. You can do this!
