My washing machine has stopped working properly, because, I think, the drain that it goes into is blocked. I've disconnected the outlet hose from the pipe- should it work if I just drain into a bucket? It's not at the moment. I'm not sure why.

Unblock the drainage and also check the machine to see nothing is blocking the filters. Sometimes coins go in there.

It's more likely to be the filter

Already checked the filter and cleaned it.

Sometimes it needs the bucket to be lower than the outlet otherwise it can self siphon back into the machine

When mine was blocked I bought a drain snake and fed it through the filter into the waste pipe. The amount of gunk that came out was unreal despite the regular cleans I do. White vinegar, hot water and a drain snake

A net curtain wire from the poundshop S ideal to wiggle up the pipe aswell. I keep one handy in my tool box. Used down plug holes and even my hoover hose. Worth a try. . Good luck

Once a month at least clean out washing machine with Dishwasher tablets on high temperature and keep drawer & door open to air dry once finished.
