I dont know if this is place to ask but dont know what else to do? Anyone know how to get rid of ants? Or anything they dont like? They are in our living room, I have put ant powder down outside around the edge of the house but still getting them and ants traps inside where we think they are coming in I have a 8 week year old and I have had to lift l her play mat and toys etc up, Being isolated is bad enough with 8 week old let alone having ants all over, now playing sat on sofa but noticed one running alone the cushion  My house is clean and tidy, hoovered and disinfected daily, some of the family and friends joke I'm obsessed with cleaning, hoover has been cleaned out, it's hard floors not carpets ( apart from a rug), we have no pets Any tips welcome it's making me feel dirty and scruffy Thanks x

@converter10 we get these every year Ants come back every year. we find outside nest (looks like a mound of mud/earth with a few small holes near top) we put ant powder in and around we put 2 or 3 ant traps in front room (where we get them) under settees so kids cant get to them and within a week or two its sorted.

@mush @bruch311 Dugdale aww we have used these a few years ago and didn’t have any ants for a long time but needed to get more. Hope you get sorted to be honest I’ve never seen a mound around mine but theses bait houses have worked in the past

They are attracted to food. Make sure you lift the playmat and give under it a good scrub.

For outdoors I use a mix of vinegar and a bit of washing up liquid in a spray bottle and spray around the house and between the paving stones. I use ant traps from Wilco for indoors.

I had loads last year in my kitchen. I’m same as you, like it all clean and tidy. They were in the food cupboard, all over the worktops when I got up in the mornings. I put bait stations down where I thought they were coming in from and it worked a treat

Don’t hoover up the dead ants. I know it sounds gross but if you kill the ants with ant powder the alive ants will take the dead ants back to the nest. This spreads the ant powder to the nest killing them there. This worked for me last summer.

We had them once. They were getting about under the laminate. We tried everything. Had to spray half a can of raid round the room and on a hole that went under the laminate. Then stayed out of that room for the day. Gone the next day x

If they are inside your house you can use talcum powder - it acts on them in the same way as ant powder but safer to use indoors.

They aren't dirty so cleaning won't make any difference. Apart from removing food scraps they might eat. I think it takes time for stuff to work. So have patience. And keep you little one away from poisons

I struggled with ants every summer for 3 years then an Indian lady told me to put a coating of paprika or any strong smelling curry powder or cinnamon along the outside of my windowsill and the smell will stop them and it worked a treat x

I use food grade Diatomaceous Earth powder. I sprinkle it around the bottom of the doors and anywhere else I see that they're coming in. They love the stuff and carry it back to their nests where they eat it and it destroys their exoskeleton and therefore killing them. If you make sure you purchase the food grade variety it won't harm you or your children if they happen to get any on their hands (as we all know that little-ones always put their fingers in their mouths).

White vinegar! We went away for 4 days and when we came back the downstairs of our house was ravaged with them. Stupidly I'd forgotten to rinse the pots in the dishwasher and that was their target but they were all over! (Open-plan tiled floor). We sprayed them with neat white vinegar immediately and it kills them instantly. Then we saw where they were coming from and filled the hole. We put Ant powder outside the house and some bait stations and some were still coming. Every day I mopped with a mix of white vinegar and water where they were going to kill the trails and after two weeks they were almost gone but there were a few stragglers. I read on the internet about hot chilli powder and put that down and that got rid of the rest!

If you see a line ant they are ‘scavenger’ ants and they’re looking for anything to eat. When they find something they go tell all the others and when you see loads that means they have found something and one by one are taking food back. If there are lots, follow them to the hole they’re coming from and block it with cotton wool soaked in white vinegar. If you see a lone one take it outside as they’re smelling out tiny bits of food. Make sure there are no crumbs under your settee, down the cushions or in the bin. No need to hurt them really.

We had it in our kitchen. They had created a tunnel under patio door and came through the skirting. It was normal ants and the pesky flying ants too which are bloody horrid. I used ant spray on inside, and the outside part of tunnel I kept hosing into it and then spray ant spray. The ant spray killed the ones it got to and the hose washed the dead away for the next squirt of ant spray to work. It took a couple days but eventually moved away to somewhere else.
