I know this has probably been asked before, I currently have a Dyson hoover which I loved up until I broke ‍♀️ I have seen lots of people saying they love shark vacuums so my question is which vacuum is best a shark or a Dyson? I have 2 kids and 2 dogs!

I’ve just sent my shark back. Wasn’t at all impressed
by (540 points)
@recaption8 can I ask what was wrong with it? X
by (940 points)
@radionuclide i was emptying it after every use, which isn’t normal in my mind! I have one dog and it just couldn’t cope with it. I just couldn’t be doing with needing to take the whole thing apart every time I used it just so it would pick up! I still have my Henry who has never let me down!
by (400 points)
I would be happy emptying it every time because it means its ouccking everything up out the carpet that really shouldn't be there, I love mine it doesn't hold much and does need emptying more often however i think it means my carpets are cleaner the hoover is getting evverything up x
by (890 points)
I have to empty mine every 2-3 times I've used it, I agree with above, to me that just means its picking up what my old hoover wasnt ‍♀️
by (940 points)
@glycol Robyn I had the one with the small compartment, it’s not suitable for what I need. It drove me mad as it spat out everything I’d hoovered up. I maybe should have gone for the more industrial one, but unfortunately put off so have purchased another Dyson x
by (890 points)
@recaption8 ahh right. I looked at all sorts of different hoovers before I took plunge and ordered mine, I looked at cordless and corded stick vacuums, but what put me off is exactly what you said. Not big enough. My house is only 2 bed but 3 floors and I couldn't justify getting anything smaller than a normal size hoover x
by (940 points)
@glycol Robyn the stick vacuum just doesn’t suit my needs. I have quite a big house 4 beds, if I’d have got one of the bigger ones I’m sure it would have been better but now I’ve been put off  x
by (890 points)
@recaption8 it's just a case of a bad first impression isnt it I suppose. Xx
by (940 points)
@glycol yes definitely. x

Gtech. Amazing.
by (1.1k points)
The gtech is light and the cordless feature is great. But it’s suction and cleaning ability is nothing compared to the shark.
by (6.5k points)
@moonmoonbeam I’ve never tried a shark so can’t really comment. But I love the gtech x

I got a Shark today. I'd suggest going around with your normal hoover or sweeping brush first then use the shark  I didn't and had to empty it about 3 times for one room

I've used many vacs in my job. I have a Shark at home, and I use a Henry for most of my work. If clients have a Shark I will use theirs. I wouldn't have a Dyson given.

I’ve got a vax blade and it’s great in carpet, hard floors and picking up dog hair. Battery lasts ages on full power too. I did have the Dyson, would never buy again.

What Shark would you recommend for a busy house of 4 kids 2 cats and a Siberian husky for fur reference?
by (540 points)
@bonaire176 this was going to be my next question seeing as the shark seems to be winning lol x
by (690 points)
@radionuclide I've just brought a shark anti hair wrap cordless and I honestly dont think the suction is that good, disappointed because I've wanted one for ages, if anyone recommends a better one I'll return it and pay the difference xxx
by (540 points)
@bonaire176 I have long thick hair and after having my son it falls out so much so I was looking at the anti hair wrap but looking online there are a lot of reviews saying it doesn't work :( I'm now thinking will I be wasting £100 to get the anti hair wrap when you can get the original for £150 xx
by (400 points)
I've got a long haired Sheppard who sheds for fun. I've got the corded shark duo clean lift away with the anti hair wrap and it is amazing and hasn't tangled once or blocked either which I am amazed as my previous hoover would be blocked off just my hair xx
by (3.3k points)
I have a border collie who has long fur and have the shark duo clean lift away pet. It's honestly the best hoover I've ever used. I'm surprised my dog has any fur left with the amount the shark picks up from the carpet.
by (890 points)
@bonaire176 get a true pet lift away, it's what I've got. I've got 2 very furry cats, 2 dogs and a 2 year old and its amazing x
by (690 points)
@radionuclide I dont think it's worth the extra money if I'm honest, with me my hair also falls out like mad, drives me crazy lol xxxx
by (540 points)
@bonaire176 thank you, it is a lot more, it's not like it's just £20\£30 where you would go ahh I will give it a try xxx

How has it broken, we've replaced so many parts on different dysons, works out lots cheaper than replacing. Even if it's the motor
by (540 points)
@fanfaronade I'm not really sure. It still work but the suction is VERY poor. I replaced the head on it as the brush stopped spinning. We replaced a hose that I managed to break but the suction is rubbish now so I am not sure what the problem is x
by (590 points)
Really silly but I'm guessing you've checked all the piping and seals from the bush to the cylinder. When our upright did that it was a small u shape plastic bit at the bottom had come away a bit when if accidentally sucked up a pencil, I'd taken it out to clean and not replaced it properly. Also try removing filters and giving them a clean. And thoroughly dry before replacing. Good luck
by (590 points)
These bits around the bottom? Not sure if yours is anything like this, we now have handheld dyson so got pic off ebay
by (590 points)
Did you fix the brush spin? That could be a belt slipped or cogs worn?

I tried shark although it picked up it was too heavy for me to push so had to change it and got a Dyson which I love yes it hasn’t got anti hair wrap but you just twist side piece and remove hair so not hard but suction is good.

I live my shark corded, I have 3 dogs (2 samoyeds and a kokoni) my kokoni is the worst for fur, I also have an 18 year old daughter, she loves the shark as the hose attachment reaches under her bed so she doesn't need to pull it out anymore. Shes also recommending it to her friends parents/friends, I've never known an 18 year old to get excited over household products lol.

With 2 kids & a dog, I'd be inclined to get a vax carpet shampooer, if you have carpets.
by (540 points)
@goss3762 I have laminate and tiles down stairs and then all carpet upstairs. I did see a shampooer and hoover all in one yesterday
by (860 points)
@radionuclide I have the same layout, but my dog is so crafty! If he's been outside, & it's been raining or muddy, he's been known to run upstairs . oh the mess! I don't have kids, but they too can have little spillages, I know sharks & dysons are good for suction, but I'd rather go for nice, clean & fresh carpets, when the going gets tuff!
by (540 points)
@goss3762 yes I do have a carpet shampooer which I stole of my mum  but at some point I ain't going to have to give it back I suppose. Our little jack has just come into her first season so I will be going around with the shampooer later  even though she's very clean.
by (860 points)
@radionuclide I paid £129 for my vax, it's good as I can do the upholstery, it's good of ur mum to let u borrow it, I don't lend mine out, too precious!
