Hi All, We have a water dispenser in our fridge. It’s an American style fridge freezer, large water container in fridge that we need to fill up and it is dispensed as ice or water through the freezer door. It now has a really metallic taste to it, can even taste it in a drink just from the ice. I have flushed it through litre after litre but still tastes the same. Can anyone recommend the best thing to safely clean this out and flush through that isnt going to leave any chemical behind? Thanks

Whem did u last replace filter hun?
by (300 points)
@winepress it’s a new machine, as far as I’m aware there is no filter as it’s not plumbed into the mains, have I got that wrong?

I was under impression it shoukd be plumbed in hun. Mines is anyway. A tube goes from bk of machine and runs to a water filter that then runs to water mains under sink. I wouod check ure handbook. Mines has it and I have guys that install these and they all need plumbed in that ive seen Even if you youtube the install of the specific machine and it will clarify for u :) Only reason i can think why water tastes metallic.

@winepress no our def isn’t plumbed in, we have a 5litre container in the fridge that has a tube connecting it to the freezer dispenser.

@shellashellac have you ever had any problems with taste?

@shellashellac mines is quite an old one in all honesty. Like i said, i was always under impression they were plumbed in :). I have a big box in mines too but it holds the ice and water drawn from mains and filtered All this fancy tech now

@valdivia I've heard if you dont wash the water box out regularly then yes you can have a strange taste. also the rubber pipe needs cleaning from time to time. I havnt had any issues

@shellashellac yeah they defo do

@shellashellac thanks Ciara, we haven’t had the machine that long but wash the tub with washing up liquid and water every weekend. We can’t get the tube out as it goes solid into back of machine then out through freezer door. What do you wash yours with? Normal soap and water anything specific? I’m beginning to wonder if it’s just cause it’s new and will pass but it’s awful

I'd say use Milton. You can actually use the fluid to make water safer to drink if it has chlorine etc in it.

There should be a filter that needs changing. I’m in Canada so our stuff is all the same. I change mine about once a year.

I have a beko one, doesnt do ice but water. When you take the water tank out, to fill it up (which you should be able to) you’ll see the dispenser going tgrough from the inside to the outside, you should be able to pull it all out (dont have be gentle with it as it will have some sort of leak prevention rubber ring) and the whole lot should screw apart x
