I normally clean the toilet, right around the rim then go around with the same cloth and wipe all my door handles, switches, phones and remotes then give the oven and hob a quick once over before binning the cloth
by (1.1k points)
@stoker such a waste binning the cloth.
by (5.9k points)
Could just suck it dry instead? Saves wasting it
by (820 points)
@stoker you should get more use out of it and give you face a quick wash befor binning it
by (2.9k points)
What about wiping down your mattress and pillows after
by (870 points)
@generalissimo Na that’s unhygienic
by (4.8k points)
@stoker surely you use your tooth brush to get under the rim, don’t want to leave any debris in the nooks and crannies

I just keep a big box of rags(old washcloths and towels of all sizes) and use them for everything then toss them in the washer with the laundry. I usually go thru about a dozen in a day with all the wipe ups from spills or trackings in.

2 for bathroom. One for toilet. The other for the rest of the room. I then bleach them and put through the washing machine.

I only have a separate set of cloths for the bathroom other than that I use the same ones around the house but I generally have different cloths for different products eg furniture polish, bleach and window cleaner all have their own cloths.

I only have 2 rooms (3 if you count the hidden hall I found behind the washing machine.
by (170 points)
@sweetheart21 now that has my mind wondering about hidden hall and only 2 rooms?
by (580 points)
It's a one room apartment so the only other room is the bathroom. When I wanted to try to make some cabinets for over the washer I opened up the wall to see what kind of structural support was back there. Turns out there is a space about 5 feet long and 1. 5 feet wide that was totally empty.

I'm really surprised how many of you are using packs of wipes when you can make your own for a fraction of the price and not only have it disinfect but scent the room too ‍♀️
by (380 points)
@welltimed767 how?
by (610 points)
@welltimed767 how please?

So I brought some fleece fabric and cut into squares, microfiber is better but I couldn't be arsed to hem it whereas fleece doesn't fray. So you cut it the size you want and it's good to go. I use the vanish powder small tubs with the screw top and keep one in each room. I use zoflora which is a disinfectant, or it's cheaper alternative fabulosa and fill the tub with water and half a capful. Wring out the excess water and clean that room, you'll notice it doesn't leave a sopping wet surface like a dishcloth or flannel and both fabrics attract dirt particles because they are staticky, same as a wipe. Then I've got a net wash bag to gather the used ones in and on the 1st of every month I clean the washing machine on it's hottest cycle using thin bleach and soda crystals and put all the cloths in. No germs stay alive on a 90° bleach wash. When they are finished they are pretty dry and only really need an hour or two in the sun to finish off. Or 30mins on a low setting tumble dryer. If you use the high setting you'll get a massive static shock. I think I spent £6. 99 on 1mtr of fleece fabric on eBay and got something silly like 40+ squares from it. Fabulosa is sold in B&M or poundstretchers for no more than £2. 99 for 250ml, sometimes you can get it for £1, if so stock up! Use it to scent a room in winter by wringing it out and draping it over a radiator to dry. Also you can fill a spray bottle with water and whichever fragrance you fancy and spritz bedding, clothes you've worn once that done need to be washed but that you don't want to hang up next to your clean clothes, dog beds, kitchen counters, bathrooms. It's a disinfectant so will kill 99% of germs so says the packet but doesn't contain bleach so doesn't mark fabrics. If the vanish pot is too big to hide, Primark often sells clear makeup bags for £1, or plastic pencil cases are good or food jars or you can reuse the wipes packs by cutting off one end and gaffa taping it closed each time. I've recently found spray paint and decoupage so intend on making mine look pretty so they can be on display but blend in  Hope that helps, enjoy x

I throw my clothes away after using them, there cheap enough. X
by (4.3k points)
If they are really cheap they'll be plastic fibres that will take centuries to breakdown. The environment paying the price for wasteful laziness. Cotton and viscose cloths last years. We have loads of cotton ones made from old T shirts, free and usable for years. When they finally wear out after a few years they go on the compost heap. I have microfibre ones for some jobs but they last years.

I use a cloth for dishes, a different cloth for toilets , a different cloth for floors and sinks and bedrooms a different cloth and a different cloth for kitchen floors. They do get washed on the sanitizing one on my washing machine.

Since loo is full of bacteria it does not get used anywhere else. Polio was from feces so I am a stickler of not using around the house. Dishes also get one color , I also wipe my counters and table with that cloth. I use a special cloth for my cast iron pans. All are washed in the sanitizer load on my machine and with Lysol sanitizer for laundry which is a peroxide cleaner. I rinse well before I wash them by running all cleaning clothes through a rinse cycle tirst. Do not mix the clothes in the same wash if you use different cleaners like bleach, peroxide, vinegar, etc. Each needs to be rinsed first through one wash cycle with just water. The chemicals if mixed are poisonous.

I use a sponge only for my dishes, and microfiber cloths for cleaning the rest of the house that are specific to type of cleaner instead of changing by room. So I use one for granite cleaner to clean all the granite in the house, one for dusting spray , one for glass cleaner , one for sinks and tub cleaner, and one for toilet. Throw them in the wash, good as new

Yes, and each cloth gets disinfected and stuffed into the next washer load after each use. A dishcloth used in the morning can have 20 million bacteria on it by teatime.
