Does anyone know if there is a number we can call to alert the city if the storm drains are backing up?

Honey don’t bother. Des plaines is used to this. They know. The whole city is flooded. So is Chicago and surrounding burbs. We live through this. Next the river and sand bags.

@calpac0 I notified them on the app about a storm drain issue this morning, and they came out in 25 minutes and corrected it. So I wouldn’t say don’t bother. I’d say let them know so they can route help to the right areas.

@cowage276 people don’t don’t clear the street the street drains so that’s the result from seeds etc.

@cowage276 . yes if it’s really bubbling up as that’s water coming out. You did right.

Only so much water the sewers can take. When it rains this hard and we already had a lot of rain. The ground is soaked. Can’t absorb no more water.

Shouldn't the sewers have larger capacity if this happens all the time?

@jadda We just had all new sewers put in the Villas. The city has battled this for years. At one time we had no flooding. Way back when. When you build and build and build near the river. just were is the water to go? We did this ourselves. So now we deal with it. Can’t just keep covering up the ground. The city with the army core of engineers are trying to help the situation. Then you have burbs we share the river with who won’t do their share. That’s about it.

Really not much they can do about it when there is a downpour such as this.

We used to have a huge pond out front every time it rained but when they expanded the pipes I can count on one hand how many times it has happened (9 yrs ago)

How is it that the city has taken all this money and poured it into a project that is supposed to alleviate the flooding and yet we are always flooded and in the same spots ‍♀️ I don't see at all where anything got better, downtown des plaines is a lake right now!

@westing96 BINGO! Casino revenue was supposed to help also but we flood & it gets worse with every new development they build ‍♀️
by (5.1k points)
@westing96 One might say these projects are billions of dollars and it’s not going to be corrected for years. Millions is a dribble compared to what’s really needed. We need a water retention place and that is in the big picture. Let’s just say the plans are in the works. More so than most burbs. Casino money is all, going for infrastructure.

@equidistance38 Not true at all. It takes time. Some times they show the video of what’s been done. You would be shocked. It helps if you attend meetings and learn about the flooding as we are not alone. We have done more than most burbs.

@calpac0 been here 20yrs and the flooding has only gotten worse We reach out to get blockades put on the street & we are shrugged off ‍♀️ We are on our own ‍♀️

Street , sidewalks, lawns underwater, & basements filling

@equidistance38 Your right. Keep building huge condos along the river and you are doing what? Covering up land so we have less ground to absorb water. They know it but they keep on building.

Now this is the river problem.

We got new sewers in over her in the villas. The water went down when the rain stopped. It worked.

Does the city have a way of diverting the sewer to relieve an area?
by (5.1k points)
@bag Thats in the master plan. City council meetings are every other Tuesday. Your Alderman would be happy to answer all the questions you have. All I know is for 20 years that I have lived here the river and flooding has been a problem. Ours and every burb. town or whatever that’s along the River.

Well I am right off river road (which isn't flooded). But my road is.
by (5.1k points)
@tagmeme511 It will go down. Then flood again once the river starts to crest.

While we are discussing this topic, what ended up happening regarding the legal dispute between DP and the suburbs upstream of us? Are they still contributing to our problems with flooding, or did they have to stop?

@amin35, Sorry for your flood damage. I know it is a lot of work to clean up. @linkboy, Glad your alderman was able to provide assistance. Some officials are more willing to help then others.
