Need advice!  We got a foot of water last night in our garage and basement.Need advice! We got a foot of water last night in our garage and basement. Our neighbors (bless them! ) saved us with a gas powered pump to get the water out, but I have no idea what to do next? Call insurance? Have it cleaned? Feeling overwhelmed. ‍♀️‍♀️

Our roof leaked and damaged a lot. Called insurance. They have us next steps.

Determine if the water came from outside in or up from drains. If it’s outside in, that flood and may be excluded. If it’s up from drains, that’s water back up and should be covered. Call your insurance to let them know and find out your deductible. You’ll definitely want a company to come out and dry your basement (they have dehumidifies and air movers that can speed up the process)

I Second what @okelley9 said. Also pull your baseboards off to allow it to dry behind them. Getting dry is the most important part to avoid mold. After that it’s clean and disinfect. You can do those things yourself but paying someone is beneficial if you don’t already have enough fans and dehumidifiers. Good luck!

One more thing. Call serv-pro or service master (or similar company) right away if you are considering it. They are incredibly busy right now. It took three days for them to come to us after we flooded on Thursday night.
