Are their any kind of serious bikers (of the bicycle variety, not motorcycle) in here? Went for a long bike ride today. Lady parts were genuinely hurting at times. I'd like to keep, old glory in tip top shape, and bring her no harm. Husband says I need a new saddle. Obviously can't really go to a bike shop and ask them about it. Plus 96% of the time it's a male worker. That would be a fun talk! Sir, please help me with my vagina issues. Any pearls on seats to change out to? My vagina and I appreciate you!

Yes a new saddle would be good and if you don't have them, padded bike shorts! I used to ride to /from work when i lived in the city (18 miles round trip) and a women's style saddle paired with padded shorts (i actually used the underwear kind) made all the difference. Generally, a woman's saddle is wider to accommodate our wider hips /sit bones. And you want a woman's saddle, it'll have a cut out to accommodate your genitals, which will help.

That's what husband was saying, a saddle with a cut out. Any recommendations or just any one with a cut out? Bless you for riding in the city, every day. My anxiety would be through the roof!

@jawbreaker31 i was trying to find mine, but it's been so long i had trouble googling it. I do know it was more of a comfort style saddle vs a like racing/performance/road one. Its quite a but wider than my husbands and has the cut out, of course. We only lived 3 blocks from the lake, so 90% of my ride was on the lakefront trail. Only a bit of it was downtown and in the mornings there were so many other bikers that if you got into a pack it felt relatively safe, haha

When I lived in Lakeview, we biked to the Lakefront and that was my, "I rode my bike in the city". One and done! Yes, if on the Lakefront mainly, wouldn't be bad, but the people that bike downtown, oh my goodness!

7 mile cycles has a female manager that can maybe help you. She helped me size my kids for helmets over the phone the other day.

When I used to bike ride I always wore padded bike shorts under my capris. There's also lotion you can try to prevent chafing if that's an issue. I used to just adjust my sitting position frequently too. Of course you're supposed to straddle the seat, not actually sit on it. They do have bigger seats, wider in the butt area, that may work. Or a padded piece you put on your existing seat. Good luck!

Yes, wore padded shorts today, under my capris. No chaffing (knock on wood). I did all that. We even stopped at 12 miles. I kept repositioning. Didn't know about a padded piece you can put on existing! Thank you!

I have a gell seat and used to wear gell biker shorts under nylon shorts. Now I have my own padding and use a chafing lotion.

Thankfully, no chaffing problems, yet. I used to have that problem all the time, when I had a serving job with terrible A/C. I'll never have a gal between my thighs.

Where is the discomfort? For me it’s my actual sit bones that typically hurt. I’ve found that standing up on my pedals for a few seconds every few minutes has really helped. I think it just allows circulation to return instead of an hour straight of abuse.

It was on my actual lady regions. When I got back on I let out a loud noise. I did rise up every few minutes. I'm sure I'm putting a lot of pressure there, but I'm sitting back and all that. I try to suck in my core, but having short arms doesn't help much.

@jawbreaker31 yes, sitting up straight helps me too. Maybe try standing like half the time? LOL.

Also, have you tried adjusting the angle of the seat? Tipping it down might help.

We did that on my indoor cycle. I'll ask if he can help tip my outdoor one.

I will say you do get used to it. I've taught spin for nearly a decade and I ride outside. Everytime I come back after having a baby it takes some time to get reaquainted.

That gives me hope! For my indoor cycle, husband tipped the seat. Maybe if can do outdoor that will help. Do you still teach? Well, when things aren't like this. If yes, where at?
