What words of wisdom do you give a teen who was told by a classmate they "rated as a 2/10"? I guess a few kids were doing th is during class and one of the little a-holes said that to another.

We tell our sons all the time that there are decent people in this world and not so decent people. The sooner they know the better. This would be one of those examples of not so decent people lol Someone feeling the need to compare others because it’s most likely they are scared or feeling insecure about something they can’t express so they get pleasure or express it by trying to make others feel bad about themselves. I make sure to tell them you are going to meet ALOT of shitty people in the world and it’s about knowing when To recognize that those people trying to bring you down, it’s because they are having issues within themselves not you.

Ugh. Only people who are insecure find value in “rating” other people.

I’d just emphasize what an idiot the one doing the ranking is & ignore it

If they feel comfortable I would tell the victim to say to the offenders “I don’t like it when you rate me. Keep your mean thoughts to yourself. ” Teach the victim to stand up for themselves. Prepare them that the offenders first response probably won’t be heartfelt apology. But it likely won’t happen again. Or ask the adult in the room to lead a productive conversation between the two parties. They are probably trained in this if it’s happening at school.

I like to think that teaching them they don’t have to care what everyone else thinks of them helps. My mom reminded me of this all the time.

Thank you all so much. Definately doing all of these things. I guess I just wish I can take it all away. She says she doesnt care. but I know its hurtful and she already struggles so much. I also wish I could look the little troll in the face and tell him what I think! I love all your support. it feels good to have the reassurance that I'm on the right page! ❤
