Call your homeowners insurance company. They will refer you to one of their approved vendors.

When I did that the insurance company did it all for us.

@woodsy Thank you we called them . They hopefully will come today . They said they’re back up because of Corona Virus

@smooth10222 it’s probably because they have to work from scattered sites. When I did the kitchen they sent a clean up crew, who told them what they couldn’t fix and then they sent a plumber (I put the fire out by moving the burning stuff to the sink) to replumb the plastic pipes that were slightly melted. The literally cleaned all the ceiling and walls in the house and cleaned some of the furniture that had a smoky smell.

@woodsy oh it’s a total disaster. Everything’s got to be cleaned .

I'm so sorry! This happened to my parents about 5 years ago. They ended up getting a beautiful kitchen remodel all paid for by insurance. Hope it works out well for you.

Sorry to hear this happened. Glad your ok. I’ve got a reliable, fair priced and a good guy. Took me years to find someone like him. Worth calling. His name is Steve Corea, he’s a contractor. He’s new to des plaines came from park ridge. I don’t have his card on me to take a picture but his name in my contact list. 847-710-4404. He’s been my handyman for 20 years now. He’s clean and respectable

Glad your alright. I would suggest calling Chicago Water and Fire Restoration or Service Master cleaning. Both should do free estimates. I personally had a BAD experience with DKI Restoration.

Next time if you dont want to burn yourself you can use a baking sheet(instead of a lid) or lots of salt to put out the fire.

Or a wet towel

I’m going to buy a huge fire extinguisher and make sure it’s filled . I’m going to never heat oil that hot in my home and cover lid .

@smooth10222 that sounds like a great plan.

My brother used to work for a place called Service-master. I know that company has done a lot of work around Des Plaines, and if I’m not mistaken, they are a national company, With various locations throughout the Chicagoland area.

They specifically do disaster cleanup and fire restoration services. I know they did a lot of work with the Katrina cleanup in New Orleans years ago.
