My husband pulled his back really badly on Monday while simply leaning down to pick up a gallon of milk. He’s been in constant pain since then. It’s Friday and it hasn’t gotten any better. Any recommendations on what could help him out? He’s already wearing a back brace for support and we’ve tried icy hot lotion and the plasters. I feel so bad for him

Whenever this happens to me or my husband we lay flat on the floor and alternate heating pad and ice pack every 10 minutes. Try to do it for an hour or more. Works like a charm every time!

@donothing this! And ibuprofen will help with inflammation

Any stretches he can do might help. But when I’ve done the same, icy hot patches (not lotion) helped through the day. Is he sitting all day? Or can he lay down to try to relieve some of the pressure?

That is the worst. I did that once reaching into a box. I ended up in muscle relaxers, and it lasted for about a week or so.  I was only about 24 at the time, too.

Have him go to a walk in clinic for some pain relief, non-narcotic. Minute Clinic is open, schedule online

My back goes completely out on me a lot. I have herniated and degenerative discs. Meds don't really help a lot lately. Have him look up lower back stretches to do, lay down on the floor flat with feet up on the couch back of knees and butt touching the couch-this helps a lot! And to relieve any inflammation drink tea or water with some ginger. Good luck. Hope he feels better soon.

It happened to my husband as well. Ice packs. Rest and lower back stretches once his pain goes down a bit

Dr Hendon is still seeing patients at Arlington Family Chiropractic Clinic near the racetrack and I believe Dr Morse at Uptown Chiropractic Clinic in Park Ridge is as well. I recommend them both. Dr Morse is open today

Ice ice baby. lots of ice packs reduce any inflamation. use heat to relax muscles. Painful backs suck! So sorry for him!

It kinda sucks, but alternating between hot, and cold baths. When I throw my back out, it’s the only way I can get relief, and sometimes sleep.

Ice and take an anti inflammatory. A good chiro will not touch him when he's in pain.

Also, avoid foods/drinks high in sugar. Sugar feeds inflammation

If you can try to get a TENS machine (they are little with patches) always helps when we pull something. They’d sell at Walgreens and amazon!

Alternate ice and heat. Also, take 2 ibuprofen for inflammation with 1 Thankslenol for pain. I’ve done this for both back pain and toothache pain and it helps. A TENS machine will help, too.

Back massage - if you can get one of those massagers that you put in a chair it’ll help so much! After my 3rd kiddo I kept throwing my back out over and over and over again. used the massage chair 3-4 times a day, heat pack, ice (rotate the 2), ibuprofen, and when he starts to feel better, core strengthening exercises. Unfortunately once you throw it out, it can keep happening. It’s terrible. I hope he gets better soon!
