We are going to have to either cancel or reschedule our Disney trip that was supposed to be in mid-May. Luckily, Disney is offering us to change our tickets to anytime between June 1 and December 15, and the airline is also waiving change fees. For those who have been in a similar situation. how far out did you reschedule your vacation, or did you just cancel? I have no hope right now that this virus won’t be a part of our lives through at least the remainder of this year. But if we don’t reschedule, we’re out the vacation, as well as money spent on park tickets. Thanks!

I would do it for the week that it’s both Halloween and Christmas at Disney. It’s kind of magical that it switches overnight. So last few days of October into November.

@ironic I just read that yesterday in an article, and I thought that was so smart!

@gibberish the wine and food festival is then as well so it’s fun.

@ironic that’s for Florida though, right? I think the one in CA where we’re going was canceled because it’s in April.

Yes. I just assumed you were going to FL.

Not me, but friends of ours had to cancel their trip that was happening like 2 weeks ago. They were looking at rescheduling for October.

@debussy I was leaning towards September or early October. only because I have heard it’s likely the virus will have another wave in the fall/winter months.

We are suppose to go June 3rd. I don’t think it’s gonna happen but I’m waiting as long as possible to cancel. I’m a teacher so I can really only go in the summer. If I could I would pick an off time.

@lozenge we have also been waiting as long as we could. As of right now though, Disneyland isn’t offering any reschedules until at least June 1, so I think they’re anticipating closures at least until then.

I can tell you that we did Disney the week of Thanksgiving and it was great! No big crowds and not super hot. Had to pull the kids from school for a few days, but totally worth it.
by (10.6k points)
@closeknit yeah, we were already going to be pulling them from school in May. Not worried about that either!

@closeknit also the following week. We’ve done Universal twice during the first week of December right after kids are back in school following Thanksgiving and didn’t wait more than 15 mins for most attractions!

We are still (tentatively, of course) planning to keep our trip in November/December. It is our favorite time to go with the Christmas decorations and more enjoyable weather.

Did you call your airline or the place where you book your ticket to cancel/reschedule?
by (10.6k points)
@meit87 it’s on their website. We have not called yet.

Oh I’ll check I have a trip coming up and I didn’t buy insurance on my flight. I was able to cancelled my hotels but not the airlines yet

Oh I love Halloween in Disney

@meit87 we are flying American Airlines but we did buy insurance, too. Hopefully yours will offer something soon, if not already.

@gibberish I’m a TA specializing in Disney. I would recommend pushing it back as far as possible. We’ve already had clients that pushed March trips to May early on only to now have to reschedule again. There is a lot of chatter that things may not opening as early as we’d like so I’m being cautious with my clients. If you (or anyone else) needs help, let me know. I may have some inside info or know of additional promotions. It’s a sucky time for TA’s and travelers alike.

FAR. As in November.

@casta yes, I definitely think we’re leaning towards late Nov/early December now.

We went the week after Thanksgiving a few years ago and it was a pretty good time to go things are slower because people don't want to take time off school since they just got back from break.

I think our trip was like the Tuesday after Thanksgiving through like 6 days after and it was pretty good.

Well as good as Disney ever is.

Because realistically we are going to see a resurgence in August/Sept of this mess most likely assuming dies back over summer at all. Which means a big old mess again then
