I was wondering what they’d do about the normal July start date.

@glorify I assume you already know

@transmute yes. I know it’s going to be tough for kiddos to get adjusted to this schedule but at least we were advised well in advance

So they will follow the same schedule as the rest of the district? Wow.

The online learning needs to be figured out. What if we go through all this and then in August the kids can’t start?
by (7.8k points)
@component that is my concern. I will be so sad if we change the schedule and still start with elearning. I have been pretty disappointed in elearning so far.
by (10.6k points)
@stephaniastephanie7 I think everyone needs to mentally prepare for that possibility. Many of my teacher friends have said they’ve heard rumblings from their principals to prepare for next year to begin that way. And a teacher friend of my teacher friends from another district was even told directly that when they get the chance to go in to clean out their classrooms that they should take anything with them they might need to start E-learning in August.
by (10.6k points)
@component there are some colleges that have already announced they will not hold in-person classes at least until January 2021.
by (7.8k points)
@extrorse Sewell yes I have heard this from several teachers as well. But if that is the case than I would rather start in July and hope to eventually move into a classroom and stay on our schedule.
by (10.6k points)
@stephaniastephanie7 I am surprised to hear they altered the ICS calendar this way. I agree with what you’re saying!
by (7.8k points)
@extrorse Sewell I didn’t think their union would let them so I also didn’t think this was coming.
by (10.6k points)
@stephaniastephanie7 our union contract was changed as soon as we had to go remote. Something else none of us saw coming for sure. I guess contracts are not as end-all-be-all as we would have thought.

@stephaniastephanie7 I am beyond frustrated. I want our kids to be safe (obviously), but as an educator who is married to an educator and has predominantly teacher friends, August isn’t happening. I want our schedule back with a structured online e learning situation. I just can’t.

Why can't they e-learn until august and stay on schedule? And I never get these emails so thank you for sharing!

@wellfounded check your junk mail. My husband had no idea what I was yelling about until he found it in his junk folder

I did and it wasn’t there either. Blah!
